In a recent report, The Daily Star mentioned that Manchester United are set to offer Jesse Lingard a three-year contract extension this summer. It is understood that the Red Devils want to tie Lingard down to a new contract worth £130,000-a-week with his current deal about to expire at the end of next season (via The Daily Star).

Lingard’s Outstanding Loan Spell At East London

The English playmaker recently enjoyed a brilliant loan spell at West Ham United as he managed to produce a run of eye-catching displays as a key member of David Moyes’ frontline. The Warrington-born talent banged in nine goals and secured five assists in 16 matches for the Hammers last season on all fronts.

The 28-year-old was a consistent performer at the London Stadium after he averaged 2.6 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He even distributed possession relatively well in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 83.6% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

The way Lingard has been playing of late, it makes a lot of sense for Man United to offer him a new deal as he could go on to become a regular starter at the Theatre of Dreams if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is willing to give him a chance in the coming seasons.

Lingard Offered A Three-Year Contract At Man United: Good Move For Both Parties?

Lingard is a deceptively quick presence in the final third and can be an exciting dribbler with the ball at his feet. He loves to make a few energetic runs in and around the opponent’s penalty area and is a potent goal threat because of his knack to get into some dangerous areas up top.

The England international can strike the ball with power and is usually a composed finisher in front of the opposition goal. However, his recent form at Old Trafford has been far from convincing, so only time will tell whether Solskjaer can get the best out of him over the next few years.

Man United need more depth in their squad if they want to challenge across multiple competitions in the future, so they would be wise to tie Lingard down to a new contract. Even if things don’t work out, the Red Devils will still have the option to cash in on him next summer, without having the pressure of losing him as a free agent. All in all, if Lingard ends up penning a new deal, it will be a good move for both the player and the Mancunian club as they look to bring some success back to Old Trafford in the years to come.
