Barcelona Confirm The Capture Of This Spanish Defender: What Will He Bring To The Nou Camp?

Barcelona have confirmed on their official website about their capture of Eric Garcia who is set to join the Catalan club on July 1st when his Manchester City contract comes to an end. It has been revealed that the Spanish defender will pen a contract with Barca that will have a Є400m buyout clause and would keep him at the Nou Camp until the 2025-26 campaign (via fcbarcelona.com).

Garcia’s Man City Career  At A Glance

Garcia has been a sporadic presence in Pep Guardiola’s match-day squad this season but has proven his worth as a reliable defensive presence over the past ten months. At such a tender age, the 20-year-old has already featured in 35 matches for Man City thus far, earning one assist across all fronts.

The Barcelona-born youngster has shown some glimpses of his potential but still has a lot to learn before he can become a regular starter at the highest level. Joining the Catalans will undoubtedly help the player settle into life back in his homeland which could act as another source of motivation for him to get better on the field.

Garcia is a player on the rise and could serve as a decent long-term successor to Gerard Pique who is entering the last stage of his playing career. At 20, he has plenty of room to grow into a class act in his position someday.

What Will The Spanish Centre-Back Bring To The Nou Camp?

Garcia can use his mobility to make some crucial recovering runs inside his half. He can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team. The Spanish whizkid is an excellent passer of the ball that makes him a good fit for Barca’s style of play in Spanish football.

We can expect Garcia to bring some much-needed quality to the Catalan club’s defensive department and would be an excellent signing for them in the long run. The Spanish prospect also knows his future employers well from his days as a youth player in Catalonia.

Hence, Garcia won’t have any trouble adjusting to life at the Nou Camp. Plus, he is primarily a centre-back but can also fill in as a right-back if needed. All in all, the talented youngster will enhance the overall depth of Barca’s squad for the coming seasons and could grow into a future star for them in Spanish football.
