In a recent report, Fichajes has provided an update on Real Madrid‘s pursuit of Olympique Lyonnais playmaker Houssem Aouar this summer. It has been revealed that Lyon are willing to entertain offers starting at Є30m for their prized asset with Los Blancos, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain showing interest in recruiting him during the summer transfer window (via Fichajes).
Aouar’s Up And Down Season In French Football
Aouar is having a season of mixed emotions as he has struggled to hit the heights of last season in terms of his overall productivity in the final third. The Lyon-born sensation has featured in 31 matches for the French outfit this term, finding the back of the net on seven occasions and securing four assists in multiple competitions.
The 22-year-old deserves credit for being consistent with his attacking contributions based on his average of 2.3 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Ligue 1 this season. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 86% of his attempted passes in the French top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Aouar’s current contract at the Groupama Stadium is set to expire in the summer of 2023, so Lyon have no immediate need to cash in on him unless a club like Real Madrid decide to match their demands this offseason.
Will Aouar Be The Right Choice For Los Blancos?
Aouar is a quick and agile winger who can make some clever runs with the ball from midfield. He has a wide array of passes under his belt and can set up some meaningful openings for others around him. The one-time France international can strike the ball with power and precision from long range but needs to improve his productivity in the attacking end of the field.
Hence, it would be a massive coup for Zinedine Zidane if he can find a way to bring Aouar to the Spanish capital during the summer transfer period. He is a composed presence on the ball and would add more goals and dynamism to Real Madrid’s midfield department.
At 22, Aouar will only get better with each season, so Los Blancos can expect to get the best out of him in the years to come if they manage to get him on board this summer. He will serve as a decent long-term successor to Luka Modric, who is entering the twilight years of his playing career. With all things considered, Aouar will be an excellent choice for the Madrid giants as he has the potential to bring more success to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the coming seasons.
