Manchester City welcomed Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to secure another win at home. The Mancunian giants made a bright start to the game and took the lead in the 11th minute courtesy of a tidy finish by Riyad Mahrez from a tight angle. Man City sat on their narrow advantage well and went into the half-time break one goal to the good.
In the 63rd minute, it was Mahrez who found the back of the net once again with a clever finish to put his team 2-0 up on the scoreline. Angel Di Maria was sent off by the referee just six minutes later which compounded PSG’s misery on the night. Pep Guardiola’s men cruised to a 2-0 win (4-1 on aggregate) after the full-time whistle which booked their place in the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in their history.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player fared during the match against PSG.
GK: Ederson – 7/10
The Brazilian keeper did not have a save to make in the game and secured an easy clean sheet at the back.
RB: Kyle Walker – 8/10
He was strong in the air and made several important interceptions for his team. Walker cleared his lines when needed and was lively going forward as well.
CB: John Stones – 7/10
Stones stepped up and dealt with the danger when called into action. He will be quite happy with the clean sheet tonight.
CB: Ruben Dias – 7.5/10
The Portuguese defender was not shy of putting his body on the line to block some of the opposition’s shot attempts.
LB: Oleksandr Zinchenko – 7.5/10
Zinchenko got stuck in with a few tackles and made a couple of crucial clearances at the back. He also created one good chance in the PSG half.
RM: Riyad Mahrez – 9.5/10
Mahrez was a constant menace for the opposition defenders as he completed multiple dangerous dribbles from the right flank. He scored a goal in each half and deserves to be named the man of the match for his game-winning contributions.
CM: Fernandinho – 7.5/10
The Brazilian midfield ace was successful in disrupting the opposition’s flow in the game and managed to earn the ball back a few times for his side.
CM: Ilkay Gundogan – 7/10
The German playmaker made some clever runs from midfield and orchestrated a couple of inviting opportunities in the final third.
LM: Phil Foden – 8/10
Foden caused all sorts of problems for the PSG defenders and ended the game with an assist to his name.
ST: Kevin De Bruyne – 6.5/10
He was not afraid to have a shot at goal but lacked the cutting edge in the attacking third.
ST: Bernardo Silva – 6/10
Silva worked hard but offered very little in front of the PSG goal. He ran out of gas and got replaced in the 81st minute.
Substitutes:
LM: Raheem Sterling – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
ST: Gabriel Jesus – N/A
Jesus didn’t get enough minutes to warrant a rating.
ST: Sergio Aguero – N/A
The veteran forward ran the clock down for his team.
