In a recent report, The Daily Star has mentioned that Everton have entered the race to land Sergio Aguero from Manchester City when his contract runs out at the end of this campaign. It is believed that the Toffees are the latest club showing interest in acquiring the services of the Argentine veteran but could face competition in the form of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United, Barcelona and Inter Milan in pursuit of him (via The Daily Star).

Aguero’s Injury-Ravaged Campaign At The Etihad Stadium

Aguero has endured a difficult season at Manchester so far as he has missed a lot of games due to multiple injuries. The South American sensation has only managed to score four goals in 16 matches for the Mancunian giants this term across all competitions.

The 32-year-old has struggled to rediscover his old form and is averaging 1.3 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in this Premier League campaign. However, he has distributed the ball relatively well in the attacking end of the pitch based on his pass success rate of 78.5% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

With Aguero set to leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of this season, he could be a major coup for most top sides in Europe, including the Toffees. The Argentine marksman will believe that he is still good enough to be a prolific goal-scorer at the highest level, so Goodison Park could be an ideal destination for him as he will be able to work with a world-class manager like Carlo Ancelotti.

Will Aguero Be A Good Option For The Toffees?

Aguero can still bang in some important goals for his team when he is playing regularly on the field. However, injuries have hampered his season at Man City, so this summer could be an ideal time for the player to switch clubs in search of playing minutes next season.

The 97-time Argentina international has decent pace under his belt and can still be an exciting dribbler with the ball in the final third. He has been a natural goal-scorer throughout his long and illustrious career, so if he can steer clear of injuries, Ancelotti will fancy making the most out of his services over the next few campaigns.

At 32, Aguero has still got a handful of good years left in him and would be available on a free transfer, making him a shrewd, short-term option for the Toffees to consider in this off-season. The Man City legend will undeniably add plenty of goals and a wealth of experience to the Everton attack. Plus, he could also go on to form a lethal striking partnership with either Richarlison or Dominic Calvert-Lewin up top.
