Everton played hosts to Burnley at Goodison Park earlier this evening as they looked to pick up maximum points at home. The Toffees made a slow start to the game and conceded the opener in the 13th minute when Chris Wood found the back of the net with a well-executed finish. Dwight McNeil doubled the Clarets’ advantage when he scored a sublime solo goal just 11 minutes later.
However, Dominic Calvert-Lewin got a goal back for the Merseyside outfit with a bullet header just after the half-hour mark, which meant that Everton went into the half-time break 2-1 down on the scoreline.
Both sides cancelled each other out in the second 45 minutes as the Toffees were left frustrated at their home turf. The contest finished with Carlo Ancelotti’s men suffering a disappointing 2-1 loss in the Premier League.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the match against the Clarets.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 5/10
The English keeper couldn’t do much about either of Burnley’s goals in the first half. He picked up an injury and was replaced in the 42nd minute.
RB: Mason Holgate – 6/10
He got stuck in with a few tackles but offered very little in the Burnley half. Holgate ran out of energy and got subbed late in the game.
CB: Michael Keane – 7/10
Keane showed some fight and grit by winning the ball back for his team on a few occasions. He also cleared his lines when needed but won’t be happy after allowing two goals in the early stages of the game.
CB: Ben Godfrey – 6.5/10
The Toffees centre-back passed the ball relatively well and made some important clearances during the 90 minutes. However, his efforts were not enough for Everton to take anything out of this game.
LB: Lucas Digne – 7/10
The French full-back won a lot of aerial duels and created a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third.
CDM: Allan – 5/10
The Brazilian midfield ace was too slow to react to the danger and was partly responsible for getting caught out in the lead-up to McNeil’s goal in the 24th minute.
CM: Tom Davies – 6.5/10
He was far from convincing when defending inside his half. However, to his credit, Davies set-up Calvert-Lewin’s headed goal with a brilliant ball in the first half. His impact in the game faded in the second half, so he got replaced after the hour mark.
CM: Andre Gomes – 6.5/10
The Portuguese didn’t do enough work on the defensive end of the field but was quite lively in the Clarets half.
CAM: Alex Iwobi – 6.5/10
He made a couple of promising opportunities in the final third but never looked like he has what it takes to net a goal.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 7/10
The English striker scored with a powerful header in the first half to give his team some hope after their early setback. However, he was quite underwhelming in the second half.
ST: Richarlison – 6/10
The Brazilian attacker was not shy of having a shot at goal but didn’t do enough to get his name on the scoresheet.
Substitutes:
GK: Joao Virginia – 7/10
Virginia deserves a lot of plaudits for securing a clean sheet after coming off the bench in the 42nd minute.
ST: Joshua King – 6/10
He never looked like he had a goal in him.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 6/10
He brought some energy onto the field.
