In a recent report, Calciomercato has claimed that Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey fancies a move to Liverpool along with West Ham United in the summer. It is understood that the Welsh midfielder is ready to return to the Premier League and could be open to joining the Reds during the summer transfer window (via Calciomercato).
Ramsey’s Season Of Mixed Emotions In Italian Football
Ramsey has experienced an up and down season at Turin after missing a few matches over the past eight months because of multiple injuries. The former Arsenal playmaker has participated in 26 matches for Juve this term, finding the back of the net twice and providing five assists in multiple competitions.
The Welsh sensation has given a good account of himself at the centre of the park as he is averaging 1.0 tackles, 1.3 shots, 1.5 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. Ramsey has even taken care of the ball when distributing possession from midfield because he has made 86.6% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
The 30-year-old is currently under contract at Turin until the summer of 2023, so it won’t be easy for the Reds to convince the Italian outfit to sanction a deal for his services this summer.
What Does The Welsh Midfield Ace Bring To The Table?
Ramsey is a moderately-paced box to box midfielder who can complete some lung-bursting dribbles with the ball in the opponent’s half. He has a good football IQ that helps him get into some promising areas in the final third. The 61-time Wales international has a wide range of passes in his locker and is not afraid to put in a tireless shift at the centre of the park. However, he needs to be more consistent with his all-around contributions in the attacking third.
Should The Reds Move In For Ramsey This Summer?
With Georginio Wijnaldum set to join Barcelona as a free agent at the end of this campaign, Jurgen Klopp will have to find a suitable replacement for the Dutch midfield ace. Ramsey fits the bill perfectly as he can assume a similar role for Liverpool in the coming seasons. The Welsh sensation excels at retaining the ball for his team and would add some much-needed creativity to the Reds midfield department.
However, at 30, Ramsey doesn’t fit the Liverpool owners, Fenway Sports Group’s model of signing players who would add long-term value to the Merseyside club. The Juventus midfielder would be a good signing for Jurgen Klopp to consider in the short-term. However, the German head coach would be wise to look at some of his other targets and only move in for Ramsey if he has difficulties finding a replacement for Wijnaldum this summer.
