High flying Rangers are not done yet in the winter transfer window despite closing in on their first Premiership crown in a decade. They are working on a few deals to bolster the squad furthermore but might face a blow in their pursuit of Rochdale teenager Kwadwo Baah who has now been approached by Premier League hotshots Manchester City, reliable Mike McGrath has claimed in one of his recent tweets.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Lee, Rangers and West Ham United were contesting for the attacker a few days back. Clubs like  Juventus and Bayern Munich have scouted him as well in recent months. However, Man City’s interest would be a major blow for all the other suitors as their financial supremacy has been unprecedented over the years. The League One side would prefer to receive a transfer sum over losing their prized asset for free five months later and a transfer to Etihad should be win-win for all parties involved.

Why A Move To Rangers Would Hand Baah Assured Minutes Of The Highest Order

Rangers, meanwhile, hold an advantage in terms of offering Baah an immediate first-team experience. A few exits are likely to occur during the summer window with Jermain Defoe and Greg Stewart’s contract set to expire at the end of the current campaign. Glenn Middleton and Jordan Jones, currently out on loan, are not in Steven Gerrard’s plan whereas the versatility of the Dale prodigy makes him a perfect fit in the current Gers’ setup. He has been promising from both the flanks and has also exhibited his composure while spearheading the attack. Three goals and two assists in 13 league games [stats via Transfermarket] depict his promises to make it big in the forthcoming future and the clubs, therefore, are understandably circling like vultures to secure his signature.

Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi, Kemar Roofe and Brandon Barker are the only outright wide attacking options and the potential egress of Alfredo Morelos (a long-term Lille target) might see Roofe and Cedric Itten occupying the ‘number 9’ status. New recruit Scott Wright would be a better fit as a ‘number 10’ and Baah, thus, would have his opportunities to challenge and cover the senior names. But the Bears would rather have him on a Bosman in summer and the monetary supremacy of the Manchester heavyweights must be viewed as a setback for the Glasgow giants.
