In a recent report, Eurosport has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Southampton forward Danny Ings ahead of a potential move for him at the end of this campaign. The former Liverpool striker is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract with the Saints which could open the door for Spurs to seal a move for him next summer (via Eurosport).

Ings’ Impressive Form In English Football This Season

Ings has enjoyed a productive season at the St. Mary’s Stadium after producing a run of goal-scoring displays as the focal point of Ralph Hasenhüttl’s attack. The English marksman has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 14 matches for the Saints this term across all fronts.

The Winchester-born frontman has done well to average 2.1 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season. However, he needs to take care of the ball better when linking up with his teammates in the final third as he has completed 63.9% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

Despite Ings’ impressive goal-scoring record at Southampton, he could be tempted to join a top club like Tottenham in search of some major trophies in the years to come. The 28-year-old is currently playing at his prime, so he needs to sort out his long-term future soon before father time starts to catch up with him.

What Will The English Forward Bring To The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?

Ings has transformed himself into a lethal finisher in the attacking third of the pitch over the past few years in the Premier League. He has the killer instincts to bang in goals consistently at the highest level and can also set up his teammates when they are in a promising position in front of the opponent’s goal.

The English sensation has a good football IQ that allows him to get into some dangerous areas inside the opposition penalty box. However, he needs to improve his passing accuracy so that he can be a success story at North London if Jose Mourinho can find a way to get a deal done for him this summer.

Ings will add plenty of goals to the Tottenham frontline and could be an ideal strike partner for Harry Kane at North London. However, if Mourinho is planning to use him as a back-up option for Kane, then the Saints star will be better off extending his stay at St. Mary’s Stadium where he will be guaranteed regular first-team football in the coming seasons.

With all things considered, Spurs would be wise to add an experienced and proven goal-getter like Ings at the end of this campaign as he will help them compete for some major silverware in the future.
