Real Madrid boasts of one of the best and deepest squads in Europe, but there also exists an underlying problem with such a star-studded squad, which is of young, enthusiastic and talented individuals not getting sufficient game time.
It has happened in the past and it is set to repeat itself this summer with several Los Blancos starring at a Santiago Bernabeu exit. Alvaro Morata, James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale are some of the most notable and recent names who have decided to move on from Madrid in search of greener pastures.
The 4th Official lists out two such Real Madrid players from the current squad who will most likely be on the go this summer window –
Martin Odegaard
Post his first appearance for Madrid way back in 2015, Odegaard’s progress has been rather gradual and slow.
The Norwegian midfielder was held in high regard on his return to Madrid from a season-long loan spell at Real Sociedad. However, not everything has worked according to plan for Martin Odegaard since his return. The player has imminently struggled for minutes under the tutelage of Zinedine Zidane.
The midfielder had found it increasingly difficult to replace the likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro in midfield. In fact, it is very rare for Odegaard to make an appearance off the substitute bench as well with Valverde, Isco and Asensio all higher than him in the pecking order. It will be interesting to see how this situation pans out with the business end of the season fast approaching.
Isco Alarcon
Isco departing from Madrid would be the least likely thing to happen if you take into consideration that the Spaniard was instrumental for the Los Blancos in winning three consecutive UEFA Champions League trophies under the watch of Zidane. However, injuries and poor form over the past two seasons or so have kept Isco out of the side. In recent weeks the player has been linked with a summer move to the Premier League with Arsenal interested in him, if a report published by Metro is to be believed.
The former Malaga man has found it an extremely uphill task each time he has come back from injury to dispossess the likes of Kroos and Modric from the starting line-up. To make matters worse for him, it seems like there is no progress in his situation with the likes of Valverde and Vasquez being often used by Zidane off the bench ahead of the highly rated and vastly experienced Isco. It will be interesting to see what the future holds in store for Isco who is certainly not pleased with his current situation at Real Madrid.
