Manchester United played hosts to Paris Saint-Germain earlier tonight hoping to pick up all three points at home. The Red Devils made a sloppy start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the sixth minute when Neymar scored from a tight angle. However, Marcus Rashford found the equaliser just after the half-hour mark with his deflected attempt. Both sides went into the half-time interval with nothing to split them.
The home side created some decent chances to score in the second 45 minutes but failed to be clinical in the final third. PSG kept a good shape and regained their lead in the 69th-minute courtesy of Marquinhos’ finish from point-blank range. Soon after, Fred was given his marching orders, leaving his teammates with a mountain to climb.
Finally, Neymar put the icing on the cake for the French giants with an injury-time goal as Man United ended up losing the contest by a 3-1 scoreline at the Theatre of Dreams.
Let’s take a look at how each Manchester United player performed during the match against Paris Saint-Germain.
GK: David de Gea – 6/10
The Spanish keeper made a couple of decent saves but could have done better to prevent Neymar’s opening goal when he got beat from a tight angle.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5/10
He struggled to cope with Neymar’s threat and failed to create anything of note going forward.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 5/10
The Man United centre-back was caught out of position quite a few times and won’t be happy after letting in three goals tonight.
CB: Harry Maguire – 5.5/10
The English defender struggled to marshal his backline with authority but deserves credit for making some important clearances for his side.
LB: Alex Telles – 6/10
The Brazilian left-back made a couple of decent chances for his teammates but left Kylian Mbappe in space on a few occasions during the game.
CM: Scott McTominay – 4/10
McTominay kept himself busy rugby-tackling Neymar and was showing toothless aggression at the centre of the park. It was not the most productive night’s work from him.
CM: Fred – 3/10
The Brazilian midfielder could have received a red card twice in the first half. Solskjaer didn’t take him off and paid the price when he committed another reckless challenge in the second half, which left the referee with no choice but to send him off.
RW: Marcus Rashford – 7/10
The English speedster was a constant threat with his powerful running in the final third and got fortunate when his shot saw the ball get deflected into an empty net. However, he lacked the cutting edge after the half-time break, much to the displeasure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 5/10
The Portuguese playmaker was often overcrowded by the opposition and didn’t do enough to help his team get anything from this game.
LW: Anthony Martial – 4/10
The French striker squandered two glorious chances to score and looked like a player out of form during his time on the field.
ST: Edinson Cavani – 7/10
The Uruguayan striker was quiet in the first half but had a great game in the second. He was unlucky to hit the crossbar with his excellent chipped attempt early in the second half.
Substitutes:
CM: Paul Pogba – 6/10
The Frenchman went close to scoring with a great volley but ended up missing the target with his strike.
CM: Donny van de Beek – 5/10
He offered some fresh legs in midfield.
RW: Mason Greenwood – 6/10
Greenwood brought some energy out on the flanks but didn’t do enough to score.
ST: Odion Ighalo – N/A
The Nigerian striker had very little time to make an impact.
