Newcastle United will play hosts to Fulham at St. James’ Park on Saturday night looking to bounce back from their 5-2 defeat at the hands of Leeds United in midweek. The Magpies currently find themselves in the 14th spot in the Premier League standings, so they will be hungry for the three points versus the Cottagers this weekend.

Steve Bruce might choose to go with a 4-4-2 formation and is likely to make a few changes to his first XI for this league encounter at home. The Tyneside outfit could bring Miguel Almiron and Dwight Gayle back to their starting eleven as Bruce looks to freshen things up on the field.

Defence

Karl Darlow will feature in between the sticks for the Magpies after letting in five goals versus the Whites in his last league outing. Ciaran Clark would resume his centre-back partnership with Federico Fernandez at the heart of the Newcastle backline as they focus on keeping the opposition attackers at bay this weekend.

Jacob Murphy could get the nod to function at right-back while Jamal Lewis hopes to impress on the other flank as the left-back. Bruce will ask both his full-backs to be more adventurous than usual so that they can provide adequate support to the front players.

Midfield

Sean Longstaff and Jonjoe Shelvey could get the responsibility to anchor the midfield and win most of the 50-50 battles at the centre of the park. Matt Ritchie would look to create from the left-wing while Miguel Almiron will be eager to put his pace to good use down the right flank.

Isaac Hayden and Jeff Hendrick will be named on the Magpies bench but could come on to feature in the latter stages of the match if needed.

Attack

Callum Wilson will get a chance to produce another goal-scoring display while leading the line along with Dwight Gayle, who could get a start following Joelinton’s toothless display in midweek. Despite their inconsistency in terms of results, Newcastle United have done well to score two goals in each of their past three league matches, so they will quietly be confident about banging in some goals when the Cottagers visit St. James’ Park this weekend.
