Newcastle United will clash heads with Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium on Tuesday evening hoping to win and earn a place in the semifinals of the EFL Cup. The Magpies were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at home against Fulham on Saturday, so they will be desperate to return to winning ways in this cup match away at Greater London.

Steve Bruce will probably set his team up in a 4-4-2 formation and is inclined to make a few changes to his first-team for this clash on the road. The Newcastle boss could name Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle in his starting XI later this week.

Mark Gillespie will operate in between the sticks for the Magpies as Bruce looks to hand Karl Darlow some rest. DeAndre Yedlin will feature at right-back while Matt Ritchie fills in on the other flank as the left-back. Both of them will get the freedom to join in on the attack so that they can provide enough ammunition to the front players.

Ciaran Clark will continue to partner Federico Fernandez at the heart of the Newcastle backline as they try to stop the Bees from orchestrating too many goal-scoring chances in midweek. Both Paul Dummett and Jamal Lewis will have to be content with a spot on the bench but could come on to make an impact in the second 45 minutes if needed.

Jonjo Shelvey will anchor the midfield along with Sean Longstaff as they look to keep the ball moving at the centre of the park. Ryan Fraser will hope to impress on the right flank while Jacob Murphy fills in as the right-sided wide player.

Isaac Hayden and Jeff Hendrick will have to settle for a spot on the bench as they wait for their opportunity to make an impact in the second 45 minutes if needed.

Andy Carroll will lead the charge for the Magpies alongside Dwight Gayle up top. Both of them will be eager to put on a good show when they lace up to face the Bees defenders on Tuesday. Callum Wilson could be named on the bench as he gets some well-deserved rest in this midweek cup clash at the English capital.
