Manchester City will face off against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night hoping to earn a victory which would secure their place in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup. Pep Guardiola’s men picked up a narrow 1-0 win over Southampton in their last outing which will give them a lot of momentum going into this cup clash in midweek.
The Mancunian giants will set themselves up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Guardiola expected to name a strong team for this away contest at the English capital. The likes of Sergio Aguero, Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte are all set for a return to first-team action later this week.
4-2-3-1 Manchester City Predicted Lineup To Face Arsenal
Defence
Ederson might continue in between the sticks for Man City after he secured a well-deserved clean sheet away at Southampton on Saturday. As mentioned earlier, Aymeric Laporte could come into the first-team to partner Ruben Dias at the heart of Guardiola’s defence as they look to neutralise the threat of Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette in midweek.
Kyle Walker might feature at right-back while Benjamin Mendy fills in on the other flank as the left-back. Guardiola will give both of them the license to get forward and cause a few problems for the Gunners wing-backs on Tuesday.
Midfield
Ilkay Gundogan will resume his midfield partnership with Fernandinho as they focus on producing a dominant performance collectively at the centre of the park. The gifted trio of Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez will operate just ahead of them as part of the Man City attack.
De Bruyne got an assist for setting up Raheem Sterling’s match-winner versus the Saints which will give him a confidence boost heading into this cup game versus Mikel Arteta’s men. Rodri will probably get a much-needed rest on Guardiola’s bench but could come on to influence the game in the second half if required.
Attack
Sergio Aguero will lead the line for the Mancunian outfit up top. The Argentine striker might finally get a start after being rested on the bench over the past couple of matches. Both Raheem Sterling and Ferran Torres will have to be content with a spot on the bench but could come on in the latter stages of the game if Guardiola calls upon their services.
