According to SportBild, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Marcel Sabitzer. The RB Leipzig star is being monitored by the Premier League giants and is one among many players who are facing an uncertain future at the club. Sabitzer’s current contract at Leipzig expires at the end of next season, with the player being valued at around €30 million.

Marcel Sabitzer: A Leader Among Men

Sabitzer was one of the few players who were a part of Leipzig’s promotion winning campaign back in 2015/16 season. He came into the Bundesliga as one of Austria’s most talented youngsters, and the attacker hasn’t disappointed either.

The 26-year-old initially played a key role under Ralph Hasenhuttl’s attacking unit, helping Leipzig provide a strong challenge to Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. However, it was under current coach Julian Nagelsmann where the Austrian found a new aspect in his game – versatility and leadership.

Indeed, Sabitzer has been used in an array of different roles by the young tactician, since the start of the 2019/20 campaign. This season, in particular, the attacker has often featured in central midfield, forming the second line of press alongside either Kevin Kampl or Tyler Adams.

Sabitzer was also elected as the club captain as the start of this season, and the 26-year-old has done justice to that as well. His aggression and tenacity have been essential in boosting Leipzig’s high pressing game under Nagelsmann this season, especially in the absence of the injured Konrad Laimer.

Here’s Why Jose Mourinho Should Sign Sabitzer

Tottenham Hotspur are flying high this season, having secured 17 points from just eight matches. However, Jose Mourinho still has a lot of issues he needs to address if he is to restore the club’s glory. The midfield department, in particular, has been a weakness so far.

While new signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has done incredibly well, he has lacked a reliable partner. Moussa Sissoko is too one-dimensional and lacks the technical aspect of the game while Harry Winks just doesn’t have the style to thrive under Mourinho. That is where someone like Sabitzer could be useful.

The Austrian international could potentially build a solid foundation in the double-pivot alongside Hojbjerg. Their collective work-ethic, aggression and leadership should add more stability in Spurs’ second line of press.

In addition, Sabitzer could always be an option in the attacking third as well, as the RB Leipzig star is naturally a right-winger. Although Mourinho already has a lot of options in that area, it would still give him a bonus option.

Sabitzer, therefore, seems like a tailor-made fit for Mourinho’s tactical system. At the age of 26, he already has time on his side, and for a fee of just €30 million, he could be nothing short of a bargain for Tottenham Hotspur.
