Premier League giants Manchester City picked up a narrow 1-0 win against Olympiacos tonight, after a first-half goal from Phil Foden proved to be the difference between the two sides. Although the Citizens were in complete control of proceedings right from the off, they were unable to beat the keeper a second time. This lack of a cutting edge in the final third is what has been hurting them in the Premier League as well, and Pep Guardiola is sure to be frustrated with that toothless attacking display. Despite having eleven shots on target, they were only able to properly test the keeper on a limited number of instances.

Manchester City Player Ratings Vs Olympiacos

Ederson – 6

The Brazilian keeper wasn’t called into making even a single save tonight as the home side failed to produce even one shot on target. Did try to release the ball forward quickly as usual.

Joao Cancelo – 7

The full-back played the role to good effect as he didn’t allow the Olympiacos attackers any joy down his flank. Got forward and tested the keeper on numerous occasions over the ninety as well.

John Stones – 7

The Englishman had an extremely comfortable evening in the heart of defence as the home side struggled to put any dangerous moves together. Passed the ball forward with decent composure.

Ruben Dias – 7

The summer signing never looked overly fazed by the Olympiacos attacking as he kept his cool at the back whenever required to step in. Won a few key tackles and headers along the way as well.

Benjamin Mendy – 7

The speedster was untroubled by the home side’s attacking play tonight and was hence able to spend a lot of time in the final third of the pitch. Linked up well with Foden at times too.

Rodri – 7

The Spaniard kept the ball ticking from side to side and ensured that the home side didn’t have any joy on the counter-attack. Like his midfield partner, got forward and helped out in attack at times.

Ilkay Gundogan – 6.5

The German kept things neat and tidy in the core of the side and didn’t really make any mistakes as such. Tried to help out in attack as well, but shot wide on a couple of occasions.

Phil Foden – 8

The English youngster looked the player likeliest to produce something for the Citizens all through the tie. Showed his dribbling skills at times and maintained composure to slot in the only goal.

Raheem Sterling – 7

The Englishman made his return from injury and started the game tonight as the captain of the team. Gave the Olympiacos defenders a hard time and played an important part ahead of the goal.

Gabriel Jesus – 6.5

The Brazilian picked up some dangerous positions over the course of the tie but was guilty of taking too many touches on a number of occasions. Needs to be more clinical in attack.
