Everton entertained Brighton and Hove Albion at Goodison Park earlier today hoping to continue their incredible winning start to this Premier League campaign. The Toffees began the game on the front foot and took the lead in the 16th minute via Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header. However, Neal Maupay equalised from close range in the 41st minute before Yerry Mina gave Everton the lead again just before the half-time break.
James Rodriguez scored a quick-fire brace for the Toffees in the second half to kill the contest off. However, Yves Bissouma got a consolation goal when he found the back of the net with a stunning strike from long range. The match ended with the Merseyside outfit running away with a 4-2 victory versus Graham Potter’s men.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player fared during the match against the Seagulls.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 5/10
The English keeper made a poor error in the lead-up to Maupay’s goal. He couldn’t do much about Bissouma’s brilliant strike in the dying embers of the contest.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 7.5/10
The Everton captain was always looking to get forward and was a real bundle of energy down the right flank.
CB: Yerry Mina – 8/10
Mina did well to keep Aaron Connoly quiet during the game and helped his side retake the lead when he scored with his header from point-blank range.
CB: Michael Keane – 7.5/10
The English centre-back dealt with everything that came his way but will be disappointed after conceding two goals today.
LB: Lucas Digne – 7.5/10
The French full-back made some driving runs out on the wide areas and did well to orchestrate some decent openings in the final third.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 8/10
The former Watford man worked his socks off to cover every blade of grass at the centre of the park. It was another outstanding performance from him during the 90 minutes.
CM: Tom Davies – 7/10
He adapted to playing the defensive midfield role quite well and did enough to stop Brighton from creating too many chances on the counter.
CM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 7/10
The Icelandic international produced an impressive showing today and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
RW: James Rodriguez – 8.5/10
The South American sensation scored two quick-fire goals from close range after the half-time, which made the points secure for the Toffees. He seems to be getting better with each game which will be quite encouraging for Carlo Ancelotti.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 7.5/10
The Everton striker kept his good form going by scoring another poacher’s goal via his header in the 12th minute.
LW: Richarlison – 5/10
The Brazilian got injured in the first half and was forced off the pitch.
Substitutes:
LW: Alex Iwobi – 7/10
He looked a real threat after coming on in the first half and even set-up Rodriguez’s first goal in the 52nd minute.
CM: Fabian Delph – 7/10
The former Man City talent brought some freshness and energy on to the pitch.
RW: Theo Walcott – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
