Arsenal faced off against Rapid Wien at the Allianz Stadion earlier this evening hoping to begin their UEFA Europa League campaign with a win on the road. The Gunners enjoyed more of the ball in the first 45 minutes but couldn’t make the breakthrough as they went into the half-time break with nothing to show for their efforts.

It was the Austrian side that took the lead in the 51st minute courtesy of Taxiarchis Fountas’ goal. However, the North London giants refused to give up and scored the leveller via David Luiz’s goal in the 70th minute. Just four minutes later, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang popped up with the winning goal as the match finished 2-1 in favour of Mikel Arteta’s men.

Let’s take a look at how each Arsenal player fared during the match against Rapid Wien.

GK: Bernd Leno – 5/10

The Gunners goalie made a solid stop early in the game but was at fault for conceding the opening goal just after the half-time interval. However, he did enough to see out the win.

RB: Cedric Soares – 6/10

He was always willing to get forward, but his final delivery let him down tonight.

CB: David Luiz – 6/10

The Brazilian was also partly to blame for conceding so early in the second 45 minutes but made amends by scoring the equaliser with a great header.

CB: Gabriel – 6/10

Gabriel maintained a solid shape at the back and did enough work defensively to restrict the opposition to just one goal.

LB: Sead Kolasinac – 6/10

He did his job well without creating too many chances from the left flank.

RW: Nicolas Pepe – 5/10

He struggled to get into the game but delivered an excellent cross in the lead-up to Luiz’s headed equaliser in the 70th minute.

CM: Mohamed Elneny – 6/10

It was an uneventful game for him. However, Elneny should be happy for getting 90 minutes under his belt.

CM: Thomas Partey – 8/10

The ex-La Liga talent completely bossed the midfield and put in a classy display at the centre of the park. He sensed the danger quickly and did his job well whenever called into action.

LW: Bukayo Saka – 5/10

The Arsenal speedster was fortunate not to concede a penalty early in the second half. He was also relatively quiet during the game, which will disappoint Arteta.

ST: Eddie Nketiah – 5/10

Nketiah had a frustrating game up top as he struggled to get himself involved in the final third. He was also lucky not to be booked twice during the game.

ST: Alexandre Lacazette – 5/10

The French striker never looked like he had a goal in him as he was lacklustre inside the opponent’s penalty box.

Substitutes:

ST: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 8/10

The Gabonese international came off the bench to net the winning goal in the 74th minute.

RB: Hector Bellerin – 6.5/10

The Spaniard added some much-needed pace out on the right flank.

CM: Joe Willock – N/A

He hardly had any time to make an impact.

LB: Kieran Tierney – N/A

Not enough time to warrant a rating.

RW: Reiss Nelson – N/A

He came on in injury-time to run the clock down for his side.
