Premiership leaders Rangers made it two wins out of two in the Europa League for the season after securing a narrow 1-0 victory against Polish side Lech Poznań tonight. The Ibrox club struggled to gain control in the midfield area in the first half, as there was an underlying tone of lethargy in a majority of their attacking play. All that changed when Steven Gerrard introduced Alfredo Morelos into the tie in the second half, from which point, for about ten minutes, they looked like a different team. The Colombian scored a good header to break the deadlock, and they were able to see out the rest of the tie despite some late pressure from the away side.

Rangers Player Ratings Vs Lech Poznań

Allan McGregor – 6

The veteran goalkeeper quite literally had nothing to do in between the sticks as the away side didn’t produce a single shot on target. Made sure to keep his composure when collecting crosses in the area.

James Tavernier – 7

The skipper was calm and collected as usual at the back as he passed the ball around with good composure. Got forward whenever possible and played some delicious crosses into the area as well.

Connor Goldson – 8

The Englishman gave away a rather unnecessary foul to pick up a yellow card tonight, but he did make several key tackles along the way as well. Positioned himself effectively for the most part too.

Leon Balogun – 7.5

The Nigerian international centre-half was caught out of position on a few occasions, but he tracked back well and covered up defensively. Made some important clearances at the back as well.

Borna Barisic – 7

The Croatian, despite not having the most influential of matches, put in the cross that led to the Morelos goal in the second half. Got forward whenever the opportunity presented itself though.

Steven Davis – 6.5

The veteran midfielder wasn’t able to control or the tempo of the game quite as much as he usually does but still linked up the play pretty efficiently. Did track back and help out at the back though.

Glen Kamara – 8

The Finnish international started the game looking quite composed and maintained his composure for a majority of the ninety. Did misplace the odd pass but looked better than a lot of players out there.

Ianis Hagi – 6

The Romanian tried to inject as much creativity as possible into the Rangers attack for the duration he was on the pitch. Completed a number of good take-ons but to no real effect.

Scott Arfield – 7

The midfielder was brought back into the starting eleven for this European clash and showed himself in a good light. Played some good forward passes and saw a long shot go narrowly wide as well.

Ryan Kent – 5.5

The former Liverpool had an uncharacteristically ineffective game down the flank as most of the things he tried didn’t come off. Worked quite hard in the attacking phase though.

Kemar Roofe – 4

The Jamaican tried to make his presence felt in attack tonight but only seemed to get in the other forwards’ way for the most part. Merely a spectator for large chunks of the ninety.

Substitutes

Alfredo Morelos – 7.5

The Colombian’s introduction in the first-half completely changed the mood surrounding the game, as his hold-up play and passing were right up there. Popped up when it mattered and scored as well.

Joe Aribo – 6.5

The Nigerian was brought into the team in the back of the home side taking the lead in the second half. Composed on the ball and looked sharp with his passing and movement too.

Ryan Jack – NA

Didn’t have time to make an impact.

Brandon Barker – NA

Didn’t have time to make an impact.
