Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United side secured their first three points of the new Premier League season after picking up a vital 2-0 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium. The home side never really managed to get a grasp of the game, and the assertive attacking from the Magpies was enough to force gaps in the West Ham back-line. Callum Wilson opened the scoring with a solid poacher’s finish in the box, before Jeff Hendrick put the icing on the cake with a blistering strike into the roof of the net. The win temporarily puts the Tyneside club in second place on the league table, albeit with several teams yet to play in this gameweek.
