West Ham United will entertain Newcastle United at the London Stadium on Saturday evening looking to secure a win in the opening day of the new Premier League season. The Hammers will be desperate to kick off their league campaign with all three points in the bag. However, the Magpies won’t be any push-overs so the East London club can expect a stern test from them this weekend.

David Moyes will opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to name his strongest available side for this upcoming home encounter versus the Tyneside giants. The West Ham players are playing at their own backyard so they will be responsible for dominating more of the ball and creating some decent chances in the attacking third.

Defence

Łukasz Fabiański will lineup in goal for the East London outfit as he looks to begin the season with a clean sheet to his name. Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop will operate at the centre of the West Ham backline hoping to keep Newcastle’s new signing, Callum Wilson quiet throughout the 90 minutes.

Ben Johnson would be eager to impress from the right-back position while Aaron Cresswell takes his rightful place on the other side at the left-back. Moyes will ask both his full-backs to maintain a good defensive shape at the back and provide some natural width in the opposition half.

Midfield

Declan Rice will resume his midfield partnership with Tomas Soucek with the hope for producing an impressive collective display at the centre of the park. Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen will feature as the wingers as they try to get in behind the Newcastle defence at every chance they can get.

Mark Noble will continue to play in the number ten role as a free-flowing attacking midfielder. However, Manuel Lanzini is a significant concern for this game and will be in a race against time to be ready. Otherwise, Moyes has no fresh injury concerns to cope with heading into this new Premier League campaign.

Attack

Michail Antonio will lead the charge for the Hammers down the middle. The English striker could find it difficult to score as he will be up against Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles and Federico Fernandez. Both Andriy Yarmolenko and Sébastien Haller will make up the numbers on the bench but could come on as a second-half substitute if required.
