According to Wales Online, Newcastle United have joined Tottenham in pursuit of David Brooks. The young attacker has attracted the interest of a host of clubs across England following Bournemouth’s relegation from the Premier League this season. Tottenham and NUFC aren’t the only clubs interested in Brooks, with West Ham, Leicester City and Crystal Palace also keeping close tabs on the winger.

David Brooks: A rising star in Welsh football

A product of the Sheffield United youth academy, Brooks has enjoyed a lot of success since his €11 million move to Bournemouth in 2018. He made his Premier League breakthrough during the 2018/19 campaign, scoring seven goals and registering five assists in just 30 league matches.

Brooks’ 2019/20 campaign, however, has been marred by an ankle surgery that has kept him out on the sidelines for almost a year. The winger did return during the restart period but failed to make an impact as Bournemouth were ultimately relegated. The player himself totalled only 511 minutes of league football, with his only goal of the season coming against Manchester City.

Brooks, however, is still regarded as one of the rising stars in British football. He is believed to possess a lot of potential, and he has already showcased that talent through his performances in the English top flight.

Where does Brooks fit in at Spurs?

Despite all his talents, Brooks is a bizarre option for Tottenham Hotspur due to multiple reasons. The Lilywhites notably signed Steven Bergwijn earlier in January, and the Dutchman has significantly added more depth in the wide attacking department.

Indeed, the club boasts the services of a host of talented wingers including Lucas Moura, Son Heung-Min and Ryan Sessegnon. The potential addition of Brooks, in that regard, should unnecessarily stack up the offensive unit, especially at a time when Spurs are in desperate need of reinforcements in the midfield or the defensive department.

Tottenham also need to consider the fact that Brooks is coming on the back of a long-injury layoff that could potentially hamper his form and ability going forward. Therefore, the Bournemouth man might be a risky target for Jose Mourinho this summer. A move to Leicester or even Newcastle United, in that respect, might be a more logical decision for Brooks, who must revive his career following an unfortunate spell on the sidelines.
