Liverpool finally managed to paint the Premier League red by ending their long 30-year wait for the league title last month. What Jurgen Klopp’s ‘Mentality Monsters’ have achieved over the past 12 months have been nothing short of awe-inspiring considering how close they came to winning the league title last season.

Liverpool’s Road To The Premier League Title: Major Talking Points

The Reds’ road to becoming the champions of England this season began with an emphatic 4-1 home win versus Norwich City back in August. The first game was a sign of things to come as the Merseyside giants were relentless in their efforts to build a big advantage at the top of the league table. They managed to get some important wins over Southampton, Arsenal, Burnley and Newcastle United respectively before embarking upon their UEFA Champions League title defence versus Napoli.

Klopp’s men made their first big statement at Stamford Bridge back in September when they secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Chelsea through goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino. However, their winning run was finally halted by Manchester United at Old Trafford when both teams shared the spoils after playing out a 1-1 draw.

The 2019 Champions League winners kept their momentum going into the winter months picking up maximum points against every team they faced shedding light on their remarkable consistency and incredible mentality. Liverpool landed a killer blow to Manchester City’s hopes when they beat them 3-1 at Anfield which gave them a nine-point advantage over Pep Guardiola’s players.

Klopp demanded more and more from his players as they breezed past the busy Christmas schedule after being crowned as the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup champions in Qatar. The Reds claimed notable victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Man United before their season came to an unexpected standstill because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The UEFA Super Cup winners took just two matches to wrap up the league title after the season’s restart. The long-awaited moment finally arrived when Chelsea defeated Man City in June which mathematically clinched the league title for Liverpool.
