Manchester United faced off against Chelsea at the Wembley Stadium earlier this evening hoping to pick up a win and book a place into the FA Cup final. The Red Devils fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes, but ended up conceding a goal just before half-time when Olivier Giroud scored for the Blues.
Frank Lampard’s men netted their second goal just after the half-time interval via Mason Mount’s finish. Harry Maguire scored an unfortunate own goal in the 74th minute to extinguish all hopes of a comeback for the Mancunian outfit. Bruno Fernandes registered a consolation goal from the penalty spot, but it wasn’t enough as the contest finished 3-1 in favour of the Londoners.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player fared during the match against the Blues.
GK: David De Gea – 2/10
The Spanish keeper committed a couple of howlers in what turned out to be a nightmare performance from him in the Man United goal.
CB: Eric Bailly – 6/10
He was forced off with a head injury following a collision with Maguire in the first half.
CB: Harry Maguire – 3/10
The ex-Leicester City centre-back was far from his best today, and his misery was compounded when he scored an unfortunate own goal in the second half. He needs to step up his game big time in the coming week.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 4.5/10
The Swede struggled to neutralise the threat of Olivier Giroud and looked vulnerable in defence throughout the 90 minutes.
RWB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 4/10
He looked a bit leggy and lacked energy out on the wide areas. Wan-Bissaka will be hoping for better days in a Man United shirt.
CM: Fred – 4/10
The Brazilian playmaker struggled to give a good account of himself and lacked quality in the opposition half.
CM: Nemanja Matic – 5/10
The Serbian midfield ace huffed and puffed but never got a stranglehold in midfield.
LWB: Brandon Williams – 4/10
He was a bit uncomfortable when in possession of the ball and was at fault for throwing away possession in the lead-up to Mount’s goal.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 6/10
The Portuguese international was always looking to create chances in the final third and ended up with a goal to his name after successfully converting a penalty in the second half.
ST: Daniel James – 3.5/10
He looked out of place and failed to orchestrate anything meaningful in the attacking third.
ST: Marcus Rashford – 4/10
The English striker struggled to get himself involved and was mostly a frustrated figure up top.
Substitutes:
ST: Anthony Martial – 6.5/10
The French attacker came off the bench to earn the penalty for Fernandes’ goal.
CM: Paul Pogba – 5/10
The talented midfielder failed to create too many chances in the final third.
ST: Mason Greenwood – 5/10
He didn’t do enough going forward.
ST: Odion Ighalo – 5/10
The Nigerian forward had very little time to make an impact.
RWB: Timothy Fosu-Mensah – 5/10
He provided some energy off the bench.
