According to a recent report by Marca, AC Milan are eyeing a loan move for Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic who has endured an underwhelming debut season in Spanish football. The same source has also mentioned that the representatives of the Serbian forward will meet the Milan giants as they view to agree on a two-year loan with a purchase option this summer.

Jovic’s Inconsistent Spell In Spanish Football

The 22-year-old has failed to live up to the high expectations at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium after failing to find a run of consistency with his performances for Zinedine Zidane’s senior team. He has made 24 appearances for Los Blancos this term, scoring two goals and providing two assists across all fronts, which highlight his recent shortcomings in the attacking third of the field.

Jovic is currently out of action because of a foot injury and has averaged 0.9 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in La Liga this season. However, he deserves some credit for atleast being tidy with his ball-distribution after completing 80.8% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

The Bijeljina-born talent has also secured seven senior caps for the Serbian national side, registering two goals for his country in the process. Maybe a change of scenery this summer could offer him a chance to make a fresh start away from the Spanish capital.

What Does The Serbian International Offer On The Pitch?

Jovic can use his pace and agility to make some promising runs in behind the last line of the opposition defence. He is proficient at dribbling with the ball in the final third and had established himself as a prolific goal-getter during his spell with Eintracht Frankfurt. However, the Serbian has struggled to find the back of the net regularly for Zidane’s team this season which has drained his confidence and damaged his reputation in European football. However, there are some question marks over whether he has what it takes to succeed at the highest level.

Should Los Blancos Sanction Jovic’s Departure This Summer?

At the moment, letting Jovic leave on loan with a view of a permanent move to the San Siro in the future seems like a good move for everyone involved. AC Milan will be acquiring a player low on confidence but high on potential. At the same time, the Madrid giants would also benefit from removing the underperforming striker’s name off their wage bill.

Therefore, it makes a lot of sense for Zidane to sanction Jovic’s departure this summer as it will finally give him a chance to rebuild his squad in search of more silverware in the coming seasons. However, Real Madrid need to sign a new forward if they decide to part ways with Jovic so that Zidane can keep Karim Benzema on his toes for a regular starting berth at the Bernabeu in the upcoming campaign.
