According to a recent report by The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur have been offered a chance to sign Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey on loan this summer. The same source has also mentioned that the Turin giants could offload the Welsh international in this off-season so that they can reduce costs in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic which could open the door for Spurs to land him on loan during the summer transfer period. However, it is believed that Ramsey’s £400,000-a-week wages could be a huge stumbling block for any of his potential suitors including Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham (via The Sun).

Ramsey’s Struggles With Consistency At Turin This Season

The 29-year-old has endured a frustrating debut season at the Allianz Stadium after struggling to find a run of consistency with his performances at the heart of Maurizio Sarri’s midfield. He has registered four goals and one assist in 24 matches for Juve this term across all fronts which highlight his growing struggles to be productive in the final third.

More importantly, Ramsey has averaged 1.0 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 1.4 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Serie A this season. He has also been quite tidy with his ball-distribution as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 87.6% in league football (stats via whoscored). His all-around contributions in midfield have been decent, but the Welsh playmaker is still nowhere near the level he had been at during his spell with Arsenal.

The Caerphilly-born talent has an excellent goal-scoring record at the international stage after banging in 14 goals in 58 senior appearances for the Welsh national team thus far. Ramsey has previously won the FA Cup three times with the Gunners, so he could be a useful squad player for Spurs if they decide to bring him back to the Premier League next season.

What Will The Welsh Midfield Ace Bring To The Table?

Ramsey can use his composure and dribbling ability to make some driving runs with the ball from midfield. He excels at interchanging possession with his teammates in the opposition half and can be a potent threat from long range as he can strike the ball with a lot of venom and precision. Plus, the Welshman has a good football IQ that allows him to get into some promising positions in the final third. His work-rate both on and off the ball has been second to none, but frequent injuries have often hampered his progress over the past few seasons.

Is Ramsey The Right Choice For The North London Giants?

A playmaker of Ramsey’s experience and skill set could prove to be shrewd, short-term addition for Spurs ahead of the new season. He will not only add more goals and creativity to Jose Mourinho’s midfield but also enhance the overall depth of his squad at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. We can also expect him to offer some healthy competition for the likes of Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, Eric Dier, Giovani Lo Celso and Moussa Sissoko in the race to secure a regular midfield berth at the English capital next season.

All in all, Ramsey will be a decent choice for Mourinho to consider before the start of the new campaign as he could potentially help Spurs taste some silverware in the upcoming campaign.
