According to a recent report by The Daily Express, Olivier Giroud is on Tottenham Hotspur‘s radar this summer. However, it is understood that Chelsea would be unwilling to sell him to one of their London rivals during the summer transfer window. The same source has also claimed that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is a big admirer of the French striker’s talents but could face competition from Inter Milan, Lazio, Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Lyon in pursuit of him this summer.

Giroud’s Growing Frustrations At The English Capital This Season

The 33-year-old has endured another frustrating season at West London after struggling to earn regular playing minutes over the past ten months mainly due to the incredible form of Tammy Abraham. He has received a total of 684 minutes of game time across all fronts but has still managed to score three goals in 13 matches for the Blues this term.

At 33, Giroud has still got a few years left in his locker to play at the highest level, so he should seek a switch away from Stamford Bridge when the transfer window reopens later this summer. The potential arrival of Timo Werner could spell the end of the French forward’s career at the Bridge. He deserves credit for averaging 1.4 shots and 0.6 key passes per game in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League despite making most of his appearances from the bench (stats via whoscored).

The Chambery-born marksman is vastly experienced at the international stage and has a substantial goal-scoring record for the French national team. He has banged in 39 goals in 97 senior matches for Les Bleus and is still in contention of being named in Didier Deschamps’ squad for next year’s UEFA European Championship finals following the competition’s deferral as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

What Will The French Centre-Forward Bring To The Table?

Giroud can use his strong frame to hold the ball up and excels at getting his teammates involved in the final third. He has also got the technique to bring the ball down quickly from the air and can be a clinical finisher in front of the opposition goal. The Frenchman can use his experience and wisdom to nick a few crucial goals for his side but lacks the pace to run the channels in the opposition half.

Should Spurs Launch A Move For Him This Summer?

Giroud has still got what it takes to serve as a decent back-up striking option for any top team in Europe at the moment. Hence, Jose Mourinho should consider providing him with an escape route by launching a move for his signature ahead of the new campaign. He will not only add more goals and physicality to the Tottenham attack but also serve as an excellent deputy to Harry Kane at North London in the coming seasons.

Plus, the French international has won a lot of trophies during his long and decorated playing career so he will instil a winning mentality in the Spurs’ dressing room. Even though father time is catching up with his game, yet Giroud has proven himself to be a consistent goal-threat and might help the North London giants compete for some major silverware in the upcoming campaign. All in all, it makes sense for Mourinho to orchestrate a short-term move for Giroud and test Chelsea’s resolve in this off-season. Also, it would be interesting to see the Arsenal Fan TV reaction to this move.
