Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City secured a comfortable 3-0 victory against Arsenal in the first big game back after the resumption of football. The Gunners were never really given a sniff of Ederson’s goal throughout the tie, and much to the credit of the City defence, Arteta’s team didn’t produce a single shot on target. Goals from Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden ensured that Pep Guardiola’s side earned an important three points tonight.
Here Are The Manchester City Player Ratings Vs Arsenal
Manchester City Player Ratings Vs Arsenal
Ederson – 7
The shot-stopper looked extremely comfortable for most of the night owing to a lack of intent from the Arsenal front-line. Unfortunately clattered Eric Garcia trying to clear a ball in the late stages.
Kyle Walker – 7.5
The Englishman was excellent operating as the inverted full-back tonight, as he offered himself as an extra man in the middle of the park. Made some sharp forward runs at times too.
Eric Garcia – 7
The Spaniard was having a pretty composed game until he was involuntarily tackled to the ground by Ederson. The youngster’s treatment resulted in a lengthy stoppage as he had to be stretchered off.
Aymeric Laporte – 8
The dominant centre-half looked like the player that Pep Guardiola first trusted and brought into the side. He was extremely thorough with his defensive covering as well as forward passing.
Benjamin Mendy – 7
The Frenchman, unlike his opposite number, was given the license to get forward on every possible opportunity. Strong defensively and he played some good crosses into the box too.
David Silva – 7.5
The Spaniard’s fluid passing and movement was an absolute joy to watch in the first half, but he was taken off quite early in the second. Crafted some excellent attacks during the tie.
Ilkay Gundogan – 7.5
The German looked like he was everywhere tonight, as he seemed to be linking up an attack one minute and then making a defensive interception the next. Composed with his forward passing.
Kevin De Bruyne – 7.5
The Belgian was far from his best tonight, but he was still too good for this Arsenal backline. Ran at the heart of the Gunners defence with pace and put away the penalty chance with high confidence.
Riyad Mahrez – 6.5
The trickster had some good moments in the first half but overall wasn’t able to affect the fixture quite as much as he would’ve liked. Had a good chance that was parried away by Leno.
Gabriel Jesus – 6.5
The young Brazilian wasn’t given too much space in the Arsenal third during the first-half and hence didn’t have the impact he desired. Picked up some good positions but never really threatened.
Raheem Sterling – 7.5
The Englishman looked like a player on a mission tonight, and he took the opportunity that was presented to him by David Luiz with great aplomb. Made some sharp forward runs too.
Substitutes
Bernardo Silva – 6.5
The Portuguese maestro was brought on in the second half in place of his namesake David. Missed a golden chance in the final minutes but moved the ball around effectively.
Phil Foden – 7.5
The young Englishman was quite simply magnificent after coming on, boasting a supreme level of passing and movement. Was at the right place at the right time to score the Citizens’ third goal.
Rodri – 7
The Spaniard offered a remarkably composed presence in the middle of the park after coming on, and he made some sharp interceptions in the final knockings of the game as well.
Fernandinho – 7.5
The Brazilian veteran was asked to slot into the centre-half role in place of Laporte, ahead of Nicolas Otamendi who was on the bench. Flawless in his defensive play.
Sergio Aguero – 7
The Argentine forward had an immediate impact after coming on, as it was his shot that hit the post and fell to Foden. Had another opportunity a few minutes later but only rippled the side-netting.
