It is a rare occurrence that some of the biggest clubs in the world go head to head against each other for a youngster. However, that has been the case this time with clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid all eyeing Valencia winger Ferran Torres.

The Athletic (subscription needed) states that the above mentioned teams are all interested in his service. Additionally, the talks about an extension of his contract have stalled, which will run its due course in the summer of 2021.

The phenomenal talent of Ferran Torres

Plying his trade for Valencia in the La Liga, Torres has caught the attention of the football world with his performances on the field. His impact has been so much that experts such as Guillem Balague have showered immense praise upon him.

The Spanish football expert had previously mentioned about Torres when he has written, “He is 18 years old and did very well against France in the international break for Spain Under-19s even though they did not make the European Championships. He was the best player for Spain at Under-19 level and the only one playing regularly in the top division.

“He has played six out of the last seven games, 11 in total this season, and quite clearly Valencia want to keep him. They renewed his contract until 2020 and put in a buyout clause of 25m euros, but Liverpool and others are keeping a close eye on him. He is a dribbler, fast on the wing, can play on either wing, and he has got ability and intelligence. He can also play inside if needed, so he is a modern winger.”

The Spaniard has performed phenomenally in his very first season with the senior team and displayed his skills in the league and the European competitions equally well. So far, in his three seasons with the La Liga outfit, Torres has featured in 62 matches, scoring six times. This season the youngster has been a regular name on the team sheet operating from the right side of the midfield.

What would he bring to Old Trafford?

Torres is known for his work rate and his ability to cross. Throughout all these years, United’s success had been built on their winger’s ability to put in accurate crosses. The wide play had been mastered under the era of Sir Alex Ferguson and now under his prodigy, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, the same strategy can be replicated. This is where Torres could be a brilliant acquisition for the Red Devils. The Spanish U-21 star can dribble past the defenders and deliver pinpoint balls for the forwards. His 1.7 dribbles per game in the league point towards that direction and this is where Torres could be a long term coup for the Mancunians.

His prospects at Man United

It will be expecting too much from the starlet if one thinks that he would be walking into the first team right from the beginning. However, the biggest advantage that he would get at Old Trafford is that an underperforming Jesse Lingard would be his only natural competitor for the spot. While youngsters like Tahith Chong has been integrated into the team, the Spaniard surely has a better profile than the Man United academy graduate. Overall, Solskjær could do wonders for himself if he can convince Torres to sign for his team and tutor him to be a world-beater in a few years.
