Real Madrid are still looking to replace Cristiano Ronaldo and the sheer number of goals he had brought throughout his career. While they have been linked with the likes of Haaland and Mbappé, eventually they must have realised that bringing in these stars are somewhat tricky. Considering that, they have turned their attention to achievable targets, Sergio Aguero being one of them.

Now the agent of the striker has played down any proposed transfer of Aguero to Los Blancos. In an interview with FCInterNews (as translated by Mirror) Reguera has stated, “Sergio has a contract with Manchester City until 2021. There is no possibility that he will go away sooner.

“We’ll see what happens after that. I haven’t spoken to Inter, and the reason is very simple: Aguero is happy with the Citizens and has no intention of changing club”

Would Aguero be useful at Real Madrid?

The Argentine is 32 years old, and in about a week’s time, he would be another year older. However, there is no denying the fact that Aguero has been an immense performer for Manchester City for the last decade. A quick look at the statistics would speak volumes about his contributions.

The ex-Atletico man is the highest scorer for the Manchester club with 180 league goals. Overall he has scored a massive 254 goals in all competitions, with Eric Brook being a distant second with 177. With respect to the Premier League, Aguero is the fourth highest goal scorer in history and the highest foreign scorer in the league.

A player of this breathtaking quality should certainly be useful for Zidane, and he would be able to walk into the starting eleven straightway. He could team up with the likes of Hazard and Kroos and still make a significant contribution for the La Liga side.

Should Real Madrid make a move for him?

In a post-COVID world, roping in the best players of the planet would not be a cakewalk. Financial constraints are being practised everywhere, and Real Madrid are not immune to that. This is the ideal time for the club to work with makeshift alternatives, and Aguero is one of the best out there in that respect. He could manage the burden of leading the Real attack with panache till the club gets a permanent replacement. With Luka Jovic under-performing, the veteran striker could be the creative force of the team at the front.

Moreover, the fact that he has already plied his trade for one of the Madrid sides in the past would help him get settled at Real better. However, if the recent statements of Aguero’s agent are believed to be true, then a return to Madrid is not on the cards at the moment. We believe, under the circumstances, Zidane should definitely make the signing of Aguero a priority.
