According to a recent report in the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta Dello Sport, as has been quoted by Spanish news source Sport, Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus are both considering signing Barcelona’s French international ace Ousmane Dembele. The report suggests that the current COVID-19 pandemic could have dire effects on the conduction of the upcoming summer transfer window.

It has been suggested in the report that there is much less money in circulation now because of the situation in the world and that clubs could be willing to use a barter system to offload and acquire players. The report also claims that the Catalan side are keen to strengthen their squad in the summer, with stars like Lautaro Martinez and Neymar on their list.

What Is Ousmane Dembele’s Situation At The Nou Camp?

The 22-year-old French speedster arrived in Catalonia from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017 and saying that he’s failed to live up to expectations would only serve as a massive understatement. The fee that the Spanish team paid to acquire the trickster was considerably high, and it’s safe to say that Dembele is yet to win over the hearts of the Barcelona faithful.

Currently out injured on the sidelines, the French international picked up a hamstring issue that ruled him out of the entire season. Even with the pandemic bringing all football to a halt, it’s unlikely that the winger will be able to return prior to the start of next season. The 22-year-old featured in just five league games for the Catalan side at the start of the season, while he only managed a single goal along the way.

What Would A Fully Fit Dembele Add To This Barcelona Team?

As can be seen from his few displays in a Blaugrana shirt so far, the Frenchman is an excellent dribbler of the ball. Extremely comfortable sticking to the by-lines with the ball at his feet, the former Rennes academy graduate is adept at getting past people with tricks or by the proper utilisation of his unbelievable pace. Despite being only 22, the dual-footed French international shows excellent maturity in terms of decision making in the final third, while he does boast a stellar strike on him as well.

Does Ousmane Dembele Have A Future At Barcelona?

The Catalan side are being linked with moves for a flurry of top quality attacking players this season, with Neymar and Martinez acting as the prime examples. Even though the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are on the wrong side of their thirties now, the plans that Barcelona have in place do look reasonably solid.

They already have players like Antoine Griezmann and young Ansu Fati fighting for the same spot, meaning that a permanent place in the starting eleven is unlikely for Dembele. Given the current situation, it would probably be in the best interest of the Frenchman’s career to find a move to one of the two Italian super-clubs.
