According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, Premier League giants Liverpool are tipped to secure the deal for Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz by former striker and Premier League legend Emile Heskey. The Englishman was quite vocal about how the Spaniard would fit perfectly into Jurgen Klopp’s system, and claimed that the gaffer would love to have someone like Ruiz within the squad.

The Napoli midfielder has been targeted by both Real Madrid and Barcelona over the last month, and the Express even released a story which claimed that Klopp had put the youngster at the top of his transfer wish-list for the summer. Although the Reds haven’t necessarily been linked with a move for the youngster since then, Emile Heskey believes that signing him would strengthen Liverpool’s midfield area.

What Would Fabian Ruiz Add To This Liverpool Midfield?

The Reds undoubtedly have one of the strongest squads in the league, and a lot of that is down to some of the good business that Jurgen Klopp and his backroom team have done over the last few seasons. With the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah in the attack, and Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the defensive rearguard, the Reds needn’t attempt to improve upon either of the aforementioned positions at this point.

In the middle of the park though, various questions can be posed about the Reds. Naby Keita is an excellent example of a Liverpool struggler, as he has failed to nail down a place in the team despite being at Anfield for a fair duration now.

Also, stars like Xherdan Shaqiri and more recently Takumi Minamino, have struggled to live up to expectations as well. Most frustrating for Klopp though, will be the scanty form being displayed by players like Gini Wijnaldum and Fabinho.

Fabian Ruiz would be like the ideal fusion between Wijnaldum and long-time Liverpool servant Jordan Henderson. While the Spaniard displays the same kind of spirit, motivation and desire towards the cause as Henderson, he also boasts the technical ability of Wijnaldum.

Adept at picking the ball up from the defenders and picking out a forward pass, the youngster has been at the core of this Napoli team for a while now, and it’s not surprising that Heskey has asked the Reds to make a move.

Why Liverpool Must Beat The La Liga Sides To His Signature?

Despite the sensational form that this Liverpool side were displaying in the early parts of the season, things haven’t been overly comfortable for Klopp and his players over the last few months. Defeats to Atletico Madrid and Chelsea meant that their dreams of a treble were dashed entirely as well. A lot of their struggles could be credited to an apparent lack of control in the middle of the park. Players like Fabinho and Wijnaldum just haven’t been themselves after Christmas, and signing 23-year-old Fabian Ruiz would undoubtedly be a step in the right direction.

Nikhil has been an avid Chelsea fan for as long as the concept of time has existed and rumours say that he even bleeds blue. Having lived in the UK for 3 years, Nikhil is said to have an excellent understanding of the atmosphere surrounding the English game. His role model is the greatest manager of all time - Jose Mourinho.
