According to a recent report from Sport Bild, Barcelona have registered their interest for Manchester City’s winger Leroy Sane. Bayern Munich have consistently been liked with him over the past year, but the latest update mentions that Bayern runs the risk of losing the lead they had in Sane’s transfer. That should be good news for a side like Barcelona that have made a late entry in the transfer race for him. Real Madrid have also shown interest in the winger.
Neymar departed from the club in 2017, but Barcelona have never managed to find the perfect replacement for him on the left-wing. The likes of Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele have flattered to deceive, and their signings haven’t worked for some reason or the other.
The Catalan giants are once again being linked with Neymar, but it cannot be denied that the Brazilian would cost a bomb. Someone like Sane will be financially more feasible, and he has age on his side which could see him play for years for the Blaugrana.
Sane has been sidelined through injury this season though he is close to returning. He came close to moving to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2019, and the Bavarians have been keenly following him for some time now. The winger is being valued around €80m-100m.
What will Sane bring at the Camp Nou?
The 24-year-old is a 21 time German international and his stock has risen ever since he moved to Manchester City in 2016. The winger is known for his explosive pace and sublime dribbling skills. Sane is direct in his approach as he likes to take defenders on, and it is often tough to stop him when he goes on his typical mazy runs.
The winger is also seen as a hard worker, and the fact that he has worked under Guardiola means that his link-up play has also improved quite a bit. We believe that Sane could be a standout signing for Barcelona and his pace and directness could trouble any defence in the world.
Should Setien go for him?
The winger might need to improve a bit on his finishing, but he is in his prime. He can take his game to another level if he manages to get his head in the right place. It would be interesting to see though how he would get on after his lengthy injury setback. Given that Leroy Sane is set to enter into the final year of his deal, he is available on a fairly reasonable price. Hence, Barcelona should look to prise him away even though Bayern have looked like his most likely destination for quite some time.
