According to a recent report by The Daily Express, Manchester United are eyeing a £50m bid to acquire the services of Diego Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of this campaign. The same source goes on to reveal that the Red Devils sent counts to catch the Portuguese winger in action on Thursday night when he bagged a hattrick and put in a match-winning display versus Espanyol in the UEFA Europa League.

Jota’s Respectable Record At Wolves This Season

Jota has enjoyed a rollercoaster of a campaign at the Molineux Stadium thus far. He has been brilliant in patches while also struggling to find a run of consistency with his performances in the Premier League. However, there is no denying that he holds an excellent record for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team this season after scoring 14 goals in 34 matches across all competitions.

The Portuguese dribbler has averaged 2.3 shots, 0.9 key passes and 2.0 dribbles per 90 minutes for Wolves this season which also sheds light on his growing influence alongside Raul Jimenez up top (stats via whoscored). Jota’s recent rise in English football has not gone unnoticed as he has managed to earn two senior caps for the Portuguese national side so far. He should use the remainder of this campaign as an audition to get into Fernando Santos’ squad for this summer’s UEFA Euro 2020.

What Are The Portuguese Wing Wizard’s Best Attributes?

Jota is a quick and agile winger who has the technical qualities required to beat his marker down the left flank. He excels at making penetrative runs with the ball and can use his body to earn fouls from the opposition.

It is also worth noting that the two-time Portugal international thrives on confidence which explains why he has only been prolific in patches but has failed to perform at a high level regularly at the Molineux. Jota has also been a decent playmaker after securing five assists for the West Midlands outfit on all fronts.

Is Jota The Right Fit For The Mancunian Outfit?

Man United should undeniably consider making a £50m bid to sign the Wolves sensation this summer as he has the potential to become a household name in European football someday. The 23-year-old has shown glimpses of what he is capable of by earning two hattricks against Besiktas and Espanyol in the Europa League respectively. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would hope that he can get those type of performances from Jota regularly if he is playing with confidence in front of a full house at Old Trafford.

The Massarelos-born talent ticks all the right boxes in terms of what it takes to be a Man United player. Furthermore, he will also be able to strike up a fruitful relationship with his international compatriot Bruno Fernandes if he makes the switch to the Theatre of Dreams. As for Solskjaer, he will be able to be more flexible with his formations and strategies next season if he adds another promising winger to his squad.
