As reported by Daily Star, Willian has hinted at a future move to Tottenham Hotspur to reunite with former manager Jose Mourinho. The Brazilian has stated that his family loves life in London and he would certainly want to stay in the city for as long as he can. Willian also claimed that he still exchanges texts with the current Spurs manager.

In this article, we will talk about three reasons why the Lilywhites should definitely look to sign this Chelsea star in the summer.

An experienced operator

One thing Tottenham Hotspur have lacked in the attacking department is the presence of an experienced forward, who can be useful during intense situations, especially in big matches. Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min both have a considerable amount of experience at the highest level of football. But, Willian, at the age of 31, has been one of the most consistent wingers in the Premier League since joining Chelsea way back in 2013. He has made over 320 competitive appearances for Chelsea, notably securing two Premier League titles as well as the Europa League and the FA Cup.

That means Willian will be able to add that winning mentality to the Tottenham Hotspur side, who are keen to usher in a trophy-laden era under Mourinho.

A good relationship with coach

Speaking of Mourinho, the Tottenham manager had a key role behind Willian’s success at Chelsea. In fact, he was the one who brought him to Stamford Bridge in 2013, in a €35 million move from Anzhi. The Brazilian has played in 114 competitive matches under Mourinho, which is one-third of the total games he has played since arriving in England.

Willian didn’t exactly attain healthy statistics under Mourinho. But, it is his experience with the Portuguese mastermind that could help him settle in quickly at Tottenham Hotspur.

Tactical compatibility

What makes Willian such an appealing target for Mourinho is the fact that he can easily tune in with the pragmatic style of play practised by the former Real Madrid manager.

Indeed, the 31-year-old is advertised as a direct winger, who loves to get to the byline and provide crosses into the box. This is something the current crop of Tottenham attackers lacked and have thus relied on the services of their fullbacks.

And especially with Christian Eriksen moving to Inter Milan, Willian can fill that hole, in the creative department, especially when it comes to creating chances from wide areas. His ability to take set-pieces would be a huge bonus as well. This direct style of play would add another dimension to Spurs’ offensive unit, ultimately making them much more competitive in the league.
