According to a recent report by The Daily Mirror, Manchester United have been offered a last-gasp chance to acquire the services of Odion Ighalo on a loan deal this month. It is believed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to sign a new striker this month following the injury to Marcus Rashford and the inconsistency of Anthony Martial in recent weeks.
The Nigerian marksman is currently plying his trade in the Chinese Super League. However, with the new season being delayed in China due to the coronavirus, it is expected that the Shanghai Greenland Shenhua talent would want to make a move back to Europe before Friday’s transfer deadline (via The Daily Mirror).
Ighalo’s Impressive Goal-Scoring Record Makes Him A Worthy Candidate
Ighalo has featured in 72 matches in the Super League thus far, scoring 46 goals while creating eight assists in the process. He has previously experienced playing in the Premier League during his time at Watford and had a decent goal-scoring record to show for his efforts. The Nigeria international netted 17 goals and provided six assists in 55 matches in the English top-flight. He has also earned 35 senior caps for the Super Eagles and has registered 16 goals for his homeland in the process.
Hence, the 30-year-old could prove to be a decent mid-season acquisition for the Red Devils before the end of this month.
What Will The Nigeria International Bring To The Theatre Of Dreams?
Ighalo is a quick and agile forward who can make some penetrative dribbles with the ball while running the channels up top. He has a good football IQ, which allows him to be a constant menace in the final third. The ex-Premier League frontman can hold the ball up using his remarkable strength to get others involved inside the opposition penalty box.
Is A Loan Move For Ighalo Enough To Salvage Man United’s Stop-Start Season?
The addition of an experienced goal-getter like Ighalo will be a decent mid-season acquisition for Solskjaer which could potentially save his managerial job at Old Trafford.
If the Norwegian head coach can find a way to get the Nigerian striker firing on all cylinders in the Premier League, then the talented striker could potentially help them make a late push for a top 4 spot in the league table at the end of this campaign.
