Ex Chelsea Star Urges Tottenham To Sign This Premier League Star: Right Option For Mourinho?

As reported by Football.London, Joe Cole has urged Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur to sign Raul Jimenez in this January transfer window. The Chelsea legend believes that the Mexican is an ideal player for not only Spurs but also Chelsea and Manchester United. As a result, he has questioned why none of these top Premier League clubs have made a move to sign the Wolverhampton Wanderers forward this month.

Jimenez’s success at Wolves

Jimenez initially joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in a season-long loan deal from SL Benfica, in the summer of 2018, shortly after they had won promotion to the English top flight. He enjoyed a stunning debut campaign in England, scoring 13 goals and mustering eight assists, helping Wolves finish seventh in the league.

As a result, his move was made permanent by Wolves for a fee of €38 million. Jimenez did endure a bumpy start to the 2019/20 campaign, notably scoring just two goals in eight matches. But, he has recovered his form since, having found the back of the net 11 times in just 24 games.

The Mexican’s contributions in the final third have helped Wolves once again emerge as one of the best performing clubs in the league. They are currently seventh in the league and with Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham all struggling, they do have a considerable chance of finishing in top four by the end of the campaign.

Why Jimenez could be an ideal signing for Spurs

Tottenham are in desperate need of a new attacker following the injury of Harry Kane. The English international is expected to remain out until April with a thigh injury. His absence has forced Jose Mourinho to utilise Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min in a central role.

And while both these attackers are quite talented, they lack that temperament as well as the prolific nature of an out and out number nine. That’s where Jimenez comes in the fray.

The Wolves forward could easily replace Kane in the number nine slot. His ability to link-up with teammates, coupled with his scoring prowess could enhance Spurs’ overall quality in the final third.

Not to mention, the Mexican could also introduce the physicality that will be essential in dealing with certain teams that defend in deep blocks. His aerial prowess, meanwhile, could be useful in set-pieces – making it easier for the Lilywhites to find the back of the net.

That being said, it surely won’t be an easy task for Spurs to get their hands on Jimenez, especially knowing how important he is, to the Wolves setup. But, they should look to make a move for the Mexican in this January transfer window or even in the upcoming summer, when Mourinho would look to kickstart his rebuilding process.
