According to a recent report by The Sun, Premier League giants Chelsea are said to have rekindled their prior interest in Lyon’s French striker Moussa Dembele, with talks between the clubs already underway. It has been suggested that Frank Lampard is extremely keen on making an attacking addition to the side and that he has informed the club chiefs that reinforcements are necessary considering that they also have the task of Champions League football to cope with in the coming months.
The report claims that the Pensioners has also reached out to Paris Saint-Germain about a possible move for Edinson Cavani, but that the Uruguayan international is more likely to make the switch across to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid instead. If the Blues are unable to sign the former Napoli attacker, then they could be forced to pay the price that the Ligue 1 side are demanding for Dembele. It has been stated that the London club would have to make an offer in the region of £45m for the young Frenchman’s services.
Why Is Dembele Such An Attractive Prospect For Chelsea?
Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side have been heavily dependent on young English star Tammy Abraham to get their goals. The weight of the pressure is starting to take its toll on him. Moreover, relying on one striker to play in every fixture, especially with the Champions League coming up later this year, would be a horrendous mistake that the club shouldn’t make.
Olivier Giroud is another piece that could slot perfectly into the puzzle. The French international has been linked with a move to Italian giants Inter Milan to join up with former Chelsea coach Antonio Conte, but could instead be included in the deal that would see Dembele move to Stamford Bridge. Offloading Giroud must be a priority for Lampard, and using him in this deal would make sense from the Chelsea perspective.
Most importantly, the Lyon striker has all the qualities of a top-level European striker and could go on to become a key player at Stamford Bridge. The attacker is a deadly finisher of the ball, and he is adept at timing his runs in behind opposition defences as well. Deceptively strong, the youngster even has previous experience of playing the English game with Fulham earlier in his career. The 23-year-old has scored eleven times in 19 league games this season and continues to be one of the hottest young properties in world football.
Why Frank Lampard Must Bring In Moussa Dembele This Month
The Blues have been struggling to find goals in games where the opposition look to sit deep and try to frustrate an often toothless Chelsea attack. There’s only so much one man in Tammy Abraham can do, and bringing in attacking reinforcements has become a necessity at Stamford Bridge right now. With Cavani now looking set for a move to Madrid, Lampard will do well to tie up a deal for the prolific young Frenchman quickly.
