Chelsea Have Dispatched Scouts To Observe This Serie A Midfield Star: Smart Business By The Blues?

According to a recent report by Tutto Mercato Web, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side are said to have sent scouts to watch the progress of AS Roma’s Guinean international midfielder Amadou Diawara, with a view of potentially signing him in one of the upcoming transfer windows. It has been claimed that Tottenham have joined the Blues in sending representatives to scout the youngster and that they were present at the venue during Roma’s 2-1 defeat by Juventus just this week.

The former Napoli man is said to have piqued the interest of both of the aforementioned Premier League clubs, and it is said that the duo have been keeping an extremely close eye on his development for the past couple of months at least. The report suggests that Spurs registered the initial interest in the midfielder’s services, but the Blues were quick to follow suit.

How Did Amadou Diawara Make A Name For Himself?

The prodigious midfielder began his playing career at local clubs Syli Authentic and FC Sequence before he was scouted as a potential talent by lower league Italian club San Marino. After impressing in the Serie D, the youngster was given a great career jump in 2015 when he signed for current Serie A outfit Bologna. Having spent just a year at the club, when the opportunity to jump ship to Napoli came up, he was quick to make the most of it.

Currently, an AS Roma player, the Guinean spent three years at Napoli before eventually moving on to the historic city of Rome just last summer. Since making the move though, his development has been nothing short of sensational.

Originally a holding midfielder, the Guinean tends to be remarkably similar to N’Golo Kante in his playing style and can provide stellar defensive cover to any back-line in the world. He is adept at picking the ball up and spreading it quickly but shines the brightest while performing his defensive duties, making him an industrious option to have in the squad.

Why Chelsea Needn’t Sign Diawara Just Yet.

The Blues started the season off on a pretty terrible note against Manchester United, but have since rectified matters. Currently, in 4th place on the league table and with a European date against Bayern Munich already added to the calendar as well, the London side have looked good all-around since then. If there’s one area of the pitch where they don’t need any desperate additions, it’s midfield.

The likes of Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic have been struggling to get playing time in recent weeks, and while that could be down to fatigue, investing on another midfielder just seems to defeat the purpose. Chelsea already boast a variety of options in the middle of the park, with players like Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Marco Van Ginkel yet to return from long-term injuries. At a time where transfers are surely going to be at a premium, signing another midfielder should be the last thing on Frank Lampard’s mind, and this certainly isn’t a decision that the Blues need to rush into.

Nikhil has been an avid Chelsea fan for as long as the concept of time has existed and rumours say that he even bleeds blue. Having lived in the UK for 3 years, Nikhil is said to have an excellent understanding of the atmosphere surrounding the English game. His role model is the greatest manager of all time - Jose Mourinho.
