Real Madrid Identify This Serie A Defender As Ramos Replacement: Right Choice For Zidane?

According to a recent report by Diario GOL, Real Madrid are planning to spend €75m to bring in a suitable replacement for Sergio Ramos, who is in the last legs of his playing career. The same source has also revealed that Los Blancos president Florentino Pérez has put Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly in his transfer shortlist ahead of a potential move in the future.

Koulibaly’s Magnificent Form In The Italian Top-Flight

The 28-year-old has been one of the standout performers for Napoli over the past few campaigns. He has been a rock at the back for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season after putting in some stellar defensive displays in the Serie A thus far.

Koulibaly has featured in 14 matches for the Naples outfit this term, making an average of 2.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 3.6 clearances per game across all competitions (stats via whoscored). The former FC Metz talent has also secured 33 international caps for the Senegalese national side while scoring one goal for his nation so far.

The Serie A star is currently playing at his peak so he could be a brilliant acquisition for the Galacticos if they can arrange a package to bring him to the Spanish capital in the coming years.

What Will The Senegalese Defensive Ace Add To Zidane’s Side?

Koulibaly is one of the strongest defenders in European football and tends to win most of his duels in the air. He has a good football brain and can read the danger quite well when the opposition team are threatening on the counter.

The Senegal international excels at making well-timed tackles and usually comes away with the ball more often than not. He is a centre-back at the top of his game which makes him an ideal fit for the Galacticos.

Will Koulibaly Be A Good Choice For The La Liga Giants?

Zinedine Zidane needs a fresh face in defence who can lineup alongside Raphael Varane and form a strong partnership at the heart of the Madrid backline. Ramos has lost a yard of pace from his game and can be a liability at times on the field. Hence, the Spaniard needs to be replaced with a world-class defender like Koulibaly so that Los Blancos can compete for major silverware once again in the years to come.
