According to the latest reports from Evening Times, Rangers have been keeping track of Dunfermline’s striker Kevin Nisbet. Dunfermline Atheltic are currently 6th in the Scottish Championship. Nisbet moved to Dunfermline in the summer of 2019 after firing 34 goals for Raith Rovers in Scottish League One.
Nisbet has carried on with his impressive form in the Scottish second tier now as he has 11 goals and five assists in all competitions in 19 appearances. Nisbet signed a two-year contract with Dunfermline this summer. The latest reports add that Rangers had sent scouts to see him in action recently.
Nisbet’s impressive rise is eerily similar to Dundee United’s striker Lawrence Shankland who impressed in the League One first, and now he is banging goals for fun in the Championship. Rangers have even been linked with him.
Do Rangers need strikers?
The Bears have got two in-form strikers in Jermaine Defoe and Alfredo Morelos. Gerrard has been able to rotate the two, and both have them have taken their chances with aplomb when they have started upfront. However, Gerrard doesn’t have a third striker at the moment at the club, and an injury to any one of the two strikers can suddenly make things look bleak.
With Rangers competing in various competitions, the club might want to have that extra cushion. The Bears parted ways with Kyle Lafferty in the summer, and they never went on to replace him with another forward. Hence, Rangers can do with a striker who will be content by being the third choice striker.
Nisbet is 22, and he is currently playing a stellar role for his side. With Morelos and Defoe at the club, not many strikers would be keen to move to Ibrox if they would want to play regularly. Gerrard will probably have to use the like of Ryan Kent or Greg Stewart upfront if Rangers go through an injury crisis.
What should Gerrard do?
Nisbet is still an upcoming striker, and Gerrard should wait and watch him more before making a move for him. Rangers will likely try to keep Morelos until the summer, and then they might sign a marquee player with Morelos’ transfer funds. Nisbet is undoubtedly not in that category at the moment where he could be Rangers’ main striker. The Scotsman will be a signing for the future and Rangers should atleast wait until the summer before making a move for him.
