According to a recent report by Calciomercato, Everton full-back Djibril Sidibe is on AC Milan’s three-man shortlist for the January transfer window. The same source has claimed that the Serie A giants have identified the French defensive ace along with Tottenham Hotspur’s Serge Aurier and LOSC Lille’s Zeki Celik in their quest to recruit a new right-back this winter. It is understood that the Italian outfit could make a move for Sidibe as he is the most affordable option in their transfer shortlist (via Calciomercato).

Sidibe’s Underwhelming Start At Goodison Park

The Troyes-born defender had to endure a frustrating start to his loan spell at Merseyside. His performances have been average at best this season. However, Sidibe could still play an important role for Marco Silva’s side in the coming months when the fixtures come thick and fast in the Premier League.

The French right-back might earn more first-team opportunities if he can prove his worth in the training ground. Seamus Coleman has been Silva’s primary choice for the right-back spot this term. However, the Toffees skipper has lost a yard of pace from his game as he is in the wrong side of his 30s.

The 27-year-old talent has featured in four matches for Everton in this campaign and has got one assist to his name on all fronts. Sidibe was a part of the famous French national squad that emerged victorious in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He has represented France in 18 international fixtures and has netted one goal for his country thus far.

What Are The French Defender’s Strengths?

Sidibe can run with the ball at high speed down the right-wing and does not shy away from working hard for his side. Even though he is yet to showcase his true worth at Goodison Park, the French full-back can still be a decent loan acquisition for Everton if Silva fancies playing him more often this season.

The ex- LOSC Lille prospect is highly versatile as he can operate in both full-back positions. He is also comfortable when being deployed in a more advanced role on the right flank. However, the Frenchman needs to add some end-product to his game if he wants to be a success story in English football.

Should Silva Allow Sidibe To Leave In January?

The Merseyside outfit cannot allow their season-long loan acquisition to leave without giving him a proper shot in England. His incredible versatility and high work-rate could still make him an essential asset in Silva’s squad. Therefore, the Toffees should not consider letting him go in January, especially when they don’t have a proper replacement in mind.
