Manchester City Join Race To Sign This Serie A Midfield Ace: The Right Choice For Pep?

According to a recent report by Calciomercato (translated by the Daily Star), Manchester City are among a whole host of clubs looking to secure the services of Sandro Tonali from Brescia. However, the same source has also stated that the Citizens will face stiff competition from AC Milan, Inter Milan, Napoli, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United in pursuit of the Serie A starlet.

It is believed that the Red Devils are currently leading the chase to sign the Italian rising star, but nothing has been finalised yet (via Calciomercato). Tonali has made an impressive start to this campaign after helping his team secure two wins in five matches in the Italian top-flight.

Tonali’s Rise To The Top Of Italian Football

The Lodi-born prospect has made six appearances for Brescia this term and has one assist to his name in all competitions. The Italian midfield ace joined the Lombardy-based club at an early age before graduating from their academy and breaking out as a first-team starter last year.

The 19-year-old had a remarkable campaign at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti in the 2018-19 campaign as he helped Brescia secure the Serie B title which ensured their promotion back to the Italian top-flight. Tonali featured in 34 matches for the Italian outfit, netting three goals while creating seven assists on all fronts.

Tonali is currently an integral member of the Italian Under-21 team, having made four international appearances for them thus far. The Serie A sensation is gradually transforming himself into a complete all-round midfielder and has no weaknesses in his game as such.

What Will The Serie A Whizkid Bring To The Etihad Stadium?

The Italian talent is quick and agile enough to cover a lot of ground in the middle of the park. He can also pass the ball accurately from midfield and can provide adequate protection for the backline. However, Tonali needs to work on his finishing if he wants to increase his goal tally for both his club and country.

Is Tonali The Right Choice For The Champions Of England?

The acquisition of a player of Tonali’s potential will undeniably be a massive coup for the Citizens if they can find a way to win the race to recruit the youngster. He will not only add more energy to Pep Guardiola’s midfield but will also improve the overall depth of the Man City squad. The Italian sensation has all the makings to be a class act in midfield and could turn out to be an excellent option for Man City in the long-run.
