Update On Fullback Rated At €6m Amid Rumours Of Him Joining Celtic: What Now For Lennon?

According to the reports from Daily Record’s Live Transfer Blog (10:04), Celtic target Robert Gumny has his eyes firmly set on a move to the Serie A. Recently various rumours had emerged that Celtic had a bid accepted for the Lech Poznan fullback, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Gumny is being valued at €6m, but a move to Scotland is unlikely according to some sources from Poland. Celtic’s exit from Champions league provided a further blow to them in their bid to land the 21-year-old right back. With just a few days remaining in the transfer window, Celtic still have some areas to improve on, and a new right-back should be on the agenda of the club.

Why Celtic need a right-back?

The club have already acquired the services of Hatem Abd Elhamed who is being hyped up as a new right-back even though he hasn’t played much in that position in his career. Lennon clearly needs to add another option to add more depth and competition for places after Mikael Lustig and Jeremy Toljan departed from the club this summer.

Strengths of the Polish defender

Gumny is a classic attack-minded right-back who loves to move forward at every chance. The fullback is comfortable playing in midfield as a right-sided midfielder as well, so that is a testament to his attacking qualities. The Polish youngster is known for his nimble footedness which allows him to get out of tight spaces.

The 21-year-old also boasts searing pace, which can trouble quite a few defenders in the Premiership. He is also known to be a hard worker, and the fullback is usually full of energy and tenacity throughout the game.

Defensively, Gumny is sometimes vulnerable, but he is a decent option to have. However, his physical strength and ability to cope with the physicality of the Premiership could be under a problem as Gumny is slightly on the lighter side. There could be occasions when he could get shrugged off the ball easily and physically strong wingers might bully him.

What now for Lennon?

Nevertheless, we think that he is still worth going after and he can improve on his weaknesses once he settles in at the club. However, latest reports for Celtic is not good news as the defender isn’t keen on the move to Scotland and it seems like Lennon might have to look at other targets in the transfer market to solve his right-back woes.
