According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, Manchester United are preparing a £30m offer for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff. However, the same source has revealed that the Magpies are demanding £50m for the English prospect during this summer transfer period.

Longstaff’s Breakout Season In The Premier League

Longstaff is a product of Newcastle’s youth system. He fought hard to break out as a first-team starter under Rafael Benitez’s tutelage last season. The 21-year-old got some valuable game time under his belt in the Premier League as he put in some commanding displays at the heart of the Magpies midfield.

The English sensation made 26 appearances for the Tyneside outfit in the last term, registering three goals while creating six assists across all competitions. His impressive contributions helped Benitez’s side to steer clear of the dreaded dropzone in the previous campaign. However, Longstaff sustained an unfortunate knee injury back in March, which has hampered his development at St. James’ Park.

At 21, the North Shields-born youngster has time on his side so he shouldn’t worry too much about his progress being derailed. Instead, he should concentrate on working hard to make a strong comeback in the English top-flight next season.

What Will The English Starlet Bring To Old Trafford?

Longstaff is a midfield workhorse who doesn’t mind going the extra mile for his team. He is full of running at the centre of the park and can contribute by scoring or assisting a few goals going forward. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to improve his game and become a regular starter in the Premier League someday.

Recruiting Longstaff: Wise Move For The Red Devils?

The addition of a young prospect like Longstaff will undeniably bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield options at the Theatre of Dreams. The Red Devils need to invest in the youth if they are to compete with Manchester City and Liverpool in the coming years.

Thus, it could prove to be a shrewd move for Solskjaer if he can find a way to convince Newcastle to sell their prized asset before the start of the new campaign.
