In a recent interview with the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp shed some light on the club’s transfer policy and said, “We are still looking, but it will not be the (biggest) transfer window of LFC.
“It just will be a transfer window.
“We will see what we do, and if we haven’t done anything by the end it will be for different reasons.
“It’s about using this team. In the transfer window, you have to build a team that you think you want to go into the season with. But I have that team already.
“If we can bring somebody else in that makes it even better, we will see. But if not, this team is already there. And again we will have to find solutions at different moments.”
With Klopp refusing to rule out further additions, the Reds need to recruit well ahead of what is expected to be another gruelling Premier League campaign. Here are three players the German head coach should consider signing during this summer transfer window.
Nicolas Pepe
The Ivorian winger has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield this summer. However, the Liverpool Echo has rubbished those links by claiming that the Reds have no interest in signing Pepe in this off-season. The Merseyside outfit would be better off recruiting the Ivory Coast international ahead of the new season. He is precisely the kind of player who can thrive under the expert stewardship of Klopp.
Liverpool need to find an ideal back-up for the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Therefore, Pepe fits the bill perfectly as he will provide more competition within Klopp’s squad.
Bruno Fernandes
The Portuguese midfielder had the best year of his playing career at Sporting CP last season. Even though a recent report by Correio da Manha (via the Metro) mentioned Anfield as one of his likely destinations this summer, nothing concrete has materialised yet.
The 24-year-old scored 32 goals and created 18 assists in 53 matches for the Liga NOS giants in the previous campaign. Klopp needs to add more creativity to his side as his current midfield options had failed to create enough chances going forward in the last term. Hence, Fernandes will be an excellent acquisition for the Reds as he can score or assist goals consistently at the highest level.
Phillipe Coutinho
The former Liverpool winger has found life difficult at the Nou Camp since sealing a move to Barcelona at the start of last year. Coutinho might welcome a change of scenery this summer so that he can rekindle his career in European football. The Reds would greatly benefit if they can bring the Brazilian back to Anfield before the start of the new campaign.
