According to the reports from Daily Record as cited by Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United supposedly have the means to sign Ryan Kent permanently this summer. The report mentions that Liverpool will sell the winger for a reported fee of £10m and that is something which the Whites can afford. Along with the Whites, Aston Villa can also pay that kind of sum.
The report does state that the winger prefers a return to Rangers where he enjoyed great success last season. Liverpool’s boss Jurgen Klopp recently dropped a bomb for clubs looking to sign him on loan as he said that the Reds are unlikely to send him away on loan again and they will only look to ship him away permanently.
Reports from Leeds Live emerged that the player’s camp is sceptical whether the club would be able to earn that kind of money from a permanent sale. We thought that Leeds United would be unwilling to spend that kind of cash on Kent after securing a big-money deal for Helder Costa not too long ago. However, latest reports mention that the Whites can pay £10m.
How can Leeds United pay £10m?
To be fair, the Whites should be in a decent financial position after the £10m sale of Jack Clarke to Tottenham and a £5.5m deal for Pontus Jansson to Brentford. Aapo Halme was also sold for an undisclosed fee.
Costa is reportedly going to cost £15m. The other signings they have made so far have been on loan signings. Therefore the club hasn’t really paid anything out of its pocket yet in this transfer window.
The Whites have to keep an eye on FFP regulations, but they should be well clear of the red line after the recent sale of players. It remains to be seen now whether this latest update from Daily Record would hold. As a Leeds fan, it would be disappointing if the Whites don’t sign any more players in the rest of the transfer window.
Why will Kent be a great addition?
Kent will no doubt elevate this team to the next level. Moreover, he can be the perfect Bielsa player as he is direct in his approach and plays with a lot of intensity. The English winger is also known for his impressive work rate and has improved on his finishing and final ball in the last year. Without Kent, a lot is going to rest on Jack Harrison’s shoulders who to be fair, was just about okay last season.
