According to the latest reports from Daily Record’s live transfer blog (8:04), Rangers are willing to offer Joe Aribo a bumper deal of £20,000-a-week if he decides to join the Scottish heavyweights. From Celtic to Championship and even Premier League clubs, a lot of parties have been interested in the English midfielder after his impressive season for Charlton Atheltic where he helped them gain promotion to the English second tier.
The midfielder is set to be out of contract soon, so maybe that is why Rangers and Gerrard are going an extra mile to secure his signature by offering him lucrative wages which will make him one of the best-paid players at Ibrox. However, we feel that a move like this happening doesn’t bode well for someone like Glen Kamara.
What can happen to Kamara now?
Kamara was influential for the Gers in the second half of the campaign after Gerrard signed him from Dundee for a meagre fee. However, the Finnish international’s performances didn’t go unnoticed and Premier League club Brighton have shown an interest in him. Kamara also went on to claim that playing in the Premier League would be a dream.
Rangers will stand a chance of making a massive profit on Kamara as he was signed just a few months ago. Gerrard can demand more than a reasonable fee from a Premier League outfit like Brighton.
Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara are a bit similar in nature and midfield is one area where the Gers are well packed with options. Ideally, we would like to see the club keep both of them together as Steven Davis is already 34 and he isn’t going to be around for long. However, the signing of Aribo could very much mean that the Gers might look to cash in on Kamara in the summer. Moreover, the wages which the Gers are offering Aribo, the club might need some departures to balance the books.
It would be gut-wrenching to see Kamara leave as he settled in well and was at ease while playing in midfield. Gerrard described him as a Rolls Royce in midfield as he was hardly hustled by the opposition and he often seemed too strong on the ball to get dispossessed.
Can Aribo replace Kamara?
His passing range was also fantastic, and Gerrard could have looked to build his team around the Finland international. Aribo can offer something similar as he has been likened to Patrick Vieira due to his playing style and physical built. The Charlton man can also have more effect in the final third as he is known as a goal scoring midfielder. Whether this will be a good move for Rangers, only time will tell that.
