Paul Pogba’s future has been speculated a lot in the last few months. It was quite evident that he wasn’t enjoying his football at Old Trafford and he gave various cryptic interviews to indicate that he wasn’t the happiest man in Manchester. His performances for Manchester United last season ranged from brilliant to shambolic. Recently he went on to confirm (The Sun) that he is looking for a new challenge.
The World Cup winner said, ” There is a lot of talking and a lot of thinking as well. For me I have been for three years in Manchester and have been doing great; some good moments and some bad moments, like everybody. Like everywhere else.”
”After this season and everything that happened this season, with my season being my best season as well… I think for me it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else. I am thinking of this: to have a new challenge somewhere else.”
With Pogba’s heart set at moving away from Manchester, here are three players Manchester United can target as replacements.
The Sporting Lisbon attacking midfielder is one of the most in demands players in football right now. Even Manchester United have been linked with a move for him, and he could be an ideal player to replace Pogba. The attacking midfielder scored 32 goals in all competitions last season, and he can be that influential player in midfield. His link-up play and goal-scoring abilities are top notch, and the Portuguese international is also known as a hard worker in midfield.
Sergej Milinkovic Savic
The Lazio midfielder was heavily linked with a move to the Old Trafford last season, but he stayed put in Italy. He might have gone slightly off the radar in the previous year, but he can be an effective player in the Premier League. The 24-year-old can do almost everything in the middle of the park as he is strong on the ball and can go on marauding runs. He can be a tough player to shrug off the ball given his physical stature, and he also can pop up with some goals from midfield.
The Italian midfielder has been a vital cog in PSG’s wheel over the years, and he can be an ideal player to replace someone like Pogba. Veratti can dictate play from midfield, and he can be likened to someone like Iniesta as he hardly gets dispossessed in midfield.
Blessed with terrific feet and incredible close-quarter control, the midfielder can pick out a pass or two as well. Verratti can play in various roles in midfield, and Manchester United should definitely consider him as a replacement for Pogba.
