According to The Sun, Manchester United are weighing up a move for David Brooks amid reports linking Romelu Lukaku with a move away from Old Trafford. It is believed that the Belgian international could quit Manchester United and join Inter Milan for a fee of £75 million this summer.
And the report claims that Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer has now set his sights on Brooks, who is valued around £50 million. The Norwegian could use the Lukaku money to fund a move for the Bournemouth playmaker as he looks to shore up the United attack this summer.
David Brooks’ success in the Premier League
Brooks joined Bournemouth in a £10 million move from Sheffield United. He initially arrived at the club as one of the most highly rated British attackers in lower leagues, and the youngster certainly lived up to this billing during his debut campaign in the Premier League.
Indeed, the 21-year-old became a vital part of the Bournemouth attack, featuring in 30 league games for the Cherries. He scored seven goals and provided five assists. And his services in the final third alongside Ryan Fraser played a critical role behind Bournemouth’s 14th placed finish in the league as they once again survived the relegation scrap.
What can Brooks bring to the table?
Brooks is a dynamic attacker, whose style of play is identical to Borussia Dortmund superstar Marco Reus. Like the German international, the Welshman loves to operate in central areas of the pitch and link up with teammates.
The 21-year-old is blessed with immense technical quality while he also likes to take on defenders. But, what makes Brooks such a bright young attacker is his ability to pick out passes in behind the defence with clever through balls. Additionally, the Bournemouth star is a lethal finisher, which is indicated by his impressive scoring tally this past season.
Should Man United make a move for Brooks?
Brooks is certainly one of the most talented up and coming attackers in the Premier League. And the Bournemouth star will surely be an exciting addition to Manchester United.
But, having already signed Daniel James of Swansea, it would perhaps be wiser for the Red Devils to pursue a slightly more well-established attacking midfielder. Besides, Brooks’ hefty valuation is reason enough for United to drop their pursuit of the 21-year-old. James Maddison, for one, could be an exciting option for the Red Devils as they aim to add more competition to Juan Mata next season.
